If you're not a moderator, go away, you can't read this! ... Just kidding. Okay, in light of recent events, I suggest us Mods form a system of checks and balances so no one moderator outshines the rest. So, aside from the obvious spam and trolls, I suggest we use this thread to ask whether or not it is appropriate to close/delete a topic/post/etc. I say, considering delays and whatnot, that one needs at least two other people's verification to go ahead. Does this sound good? ETA a few things since the "Lower Elements" are getting offended: Anyone can cotribute to how they feel about a certain thread or post. I merely started this as a "Mods Only" thread because, frankly, only Mods can delete or lock threads. It's not so much about cleaning out the boards; it has more to do with the fact that any mod can delete any thread, and it's not fair to others for one mod to do so. I know, because that's what I did before starting tis thread. So please, if you are not a mmoderator, don't be so overly sensitive and try to start a revolution. Everyone's voice can be heard. I do not think this sounds good. This kind of stuff is why moderators have such bad reputations for power tripping and being arrogant. I don't think any of want to become that kind of moderator. ------------------ IP: Logged |

So let me get this straight: you would rather have mods delete anything they find suitable, rather than checking to see if everyone else agrees? No offense, but it sounds like you got the opposite meaning of my post... Glad to see you're on board, St. A! IP: Logged |

I agree that for bigger descisions we should all talk about things. But, at the same time, I don't want to feel like I have to have permission from you guys to put a stop to the next EBitch or Faeforever. Yes I think that we ought to have a system of "checks and balances" so to speak. I mean, if someone was going to make a big decision like the deletion of "General Chinwagging" or of some other large chunk of the board's archives. Then we should make the decision in the form of a democratic republic. We, the mods, speak for everyone and have a vote amongst ourselves. I just feel that having to have permission from 2 other members seems a bit excessive. Perhaps this thread would be of better use if it were a place that we could bring up issues that we find troublesome. For instance, if there is a thread that seems like it could potentially cause a fight one of us calls it to attention in this thread. Then we all know to watch it and whoever happens to be around if and when it gets messy can jump to and deal with it, if it's in their board. Or if something is going on in a forum that we don't have soverignty over we can call it to attention in this thread and that board's moderators will know to look into the situation. Does any of that make sense? Using this as more a thread for monitoring possible problems and/or issues. Or using it to vote on large scale remodeling? I'm not trying to say that your method isn't a great idea, just bringing an alternative to light. I'll agree to whichever form of system that you all think is best. I do think that there should be a way, outside of GM, for all of us mods to contact each other regarding some of the bigger issues on the boards. You know, so we can talk about potential problem members without causing trouble. Or more specific user related problems. Uhh... I think that's all I have to say. I agree, I think when it comes to spam and trolls, we take matters into our hands however we see fit. I think that answers your question YtH. But if it comes to deleting an entire thread, various posts that we don't think are suitable for whatever reason, etc., etc., we should certainly come to common ground to discuss. I believe that all of our emails are posted now that we are all mods. I don't spend much time on any messenger services anymore so email would be the best way to reach me, I check it throughout the day. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Personally, I think that leaving a thread that contains trolls only feeds the fire. If we leave it because we have to discuss with the other mods then it will only get worse. Some things I think we should take upon ourselves to delete, but....that doesn't mean going delete happy. ------------------ IP: Logged |

WA would you like me to delete your second post? I wouldn't mind. Yeah, YTH, if someone want's to do something drastic that doesn't pertain to spam or torlls I agree that we ought to check in with the other mods. IP: Logged |

Even if it is just useless and taking up space? I mean the only person who wrote on it was the topic starter and no one has repiled to it sence the topic starter started it! (There are no replies on it what so ever) IP: Logged |

Which thread are you referring to? If it's the one from iDefy titled "brand new" that just says he/she just bought the book but doesn't contribute anything to actual discussion, then I would agree that it could be deleted, but that's just my opinion. I would let others chime in first. ------------------ IP: Logged |

HBT Mod Log OCT192007 Deleted spam threads from Confessions forum. (ie: Confession+of+an+Ugly+Stepsister). As well the thread braught up by PaN, started bu iDefy called "Brand New" that would lead to no discussion at all. (ie: "I just baught the book. I guess I'll be talking to you all soon"...although not those exact words, but you get the point) IP: Logged |

You're welcome LLK. Ok guys, I'd like to bring everyone's attention to the "Was there ever a witch of the south" thread. Please read through it (it's quick, I promise) and let me know if you agree with my post. Thanks. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Sorry Pan heh PM=private message. Basically what I was thinking was a built in email system through the boards. No one would have to give out their emails unless they desired it. I have no idea how that would affect the boards as a whole. It seems like it would require a large overhaul. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I would love to have PMs. They come in handy. ETA: Shall we delete all of the other posts in the "Witch of the North" thread pertaining to that incident? [This message has been edited by Yero the Hero (edited 10-19-2007).] IP: Logged |

i'm really afraid of starting something bad here, but i think i should just put the thought out there. in the rants and raves thread, when YtH raved about the something he got in the mail from a certain someone that all the mods are getting...i find that kind of stuff just starts tiny arguements and jealousy in the forums. not saying what the gift is for one, and then saying that only mods get it. i dont want to be one of those forums where the mods go on a power trip and make everyone else feel inferior. its never been like that here before and i really dont want it to change. i dont want to start a fight and i am completely open to hearing what everyone else has to say about this. maybe we can just watch ourselves and the way we word things. none of us are crazy ego mods and i'd like to keep it that way. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I actually agree with you. I wanted to say something about that (what yero said) but wasn't sure how to put it. Anything I thought of would have only made things worse in my opinion. I think I understood something differently than some other people. *shrugs* See this is why I want PMS! er I mean PMs. I'm kinda enjoying no PMS right now. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Yero the Hero Moderator |
I agree that comment was better suited to PMs, but I only posted that because I was excited. I specifically didn't say anything because I was trying to avoid a scene. It's not as though it's something that happens regularly, so I think it would be wise not to make a big deal out of it, because it's starting those things that lead to fights. If you don't bring it up, some people probably won't even notice. IP: Logged |
