I've been here a while, reading mostly, contributing semi-frequently (and only semi-seriously, I should add). Anyway, I haven't formally introduced myself, so I thought this would be a good idea.

My name is Kira, and I live in Western Australia. I'm starting my last year of high school in about two weeks, with hopes of becoming a lawyer, a novelist, an actor - I can't really decide.

I love to write, and have had a few poems in minor-publications. I love literature too, I love books that seem to be bottomless pots for discussion, hence my inclusion on this discussion board.

Being in Australia, I first heard about "Wicked", both the book and the musical all in one go. I had heard vaguely about the musical, through my growing interest in Idina Menzel (thank the Rent movie), and that prompted me to read the book. In July, I will be making the trip over to Melbourne to see the Australian production.

I've tried to figure out why I love showtunes so much - indeed, Wicked isn't alone. A Chorus Line, the Music Man, Rent, Avenue Q and the Last Five Years are my main favorites. Aside from that, I'm absolute sucker for Joni Mitchell's music. It takes my breathe away.

So I think that's about it. Oh, I'm currently in a relationship with another girl, who is a year older than me. We've been together for about six months.

I'd also like to include a little disclaimer about some of my posts. I'm never really trying to be malicious, sometimes my sense of humour can be a bit off, or strange to other people, and a lot of what I say is tongue in cheek - I don't mean to offend. Well.. sometimes I do.. but that's just it. lol.

Anyway, formally, Hi everybody

Anywho, it's nice to have you here! LLK talks about you all the time.

I remember singing that at Live8... there were loads of people who didn't know it though, quite disappointing!

Hey there, everyone. I'm Nessa. (Well, not really, but you know what I mean... just a little reluctant to use my real name. Or my usual fictitious one. You can call me anything you like so long as it's aimed in my general direction.)

I'm old enough to drive but not to drink. (Legally, both of them.) Pick something in there, if you need a concrete age. I have an inordinate fondness for Wicked, writing, singing, and knitting, but Wicked most of all, though I do knit things out of Wicked if I can think of them. I play oboe and piano, and I sing, though not well or when people can hear me. Mm, what else. I'm a grammar freak and will probably correct you, though from what I've seen I don't think I'm alone in that, and if the opportunity arises I will probably quote at you. And that's about it. See you around!

Welcome Nessa! I'm a Sophomore too.

It's great you're a grammar freak. We hate it when new members come and type in IM. You'll have fun here. Although, it's been kind of quiet around here lately. I doubt it will last.

Hi, I'm BlackOpal.
I actually picked up Wicked randomly on my way to Mexico because I couldn't get to a Chapters and the little Coles I went to had about five books total. (Well, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration)
So I read Wicked. I fell in love with it almost right after I picked it up.
So obviously now I'm here. I've read all of the books except for Lost.
I'm very sixteen, so you'll have to excuse (or correct, either works) my terrible grammar and spelling.
I love authors like Tamora Pierce and I am very active in the Artemis Fowl fandom, even though I don't still read the books.
I do martial arts, play the drums and absolutely adore canoing, kayaking, and camping in general (real camping, I don't mind trailer camping but I'd rather be left out in the middle of nowhere with nothing but a canoe, a tent, and some food).
That's it I think. Thanks for reading if you did.

[random comment]I crochet and have been wanting to make an afghan that looks like the Wicked Musical logo for about a month. Unfortunately can't find a pattern. I'm debating making my own by counting pixels on the computer lol. [/random comment]

I used to be a huge fan of Tamora Pierce when I was a teen. Not so much anymore because I think I've read all of her books except the "Trickster" series. That one I've only read the first book. And I've kinda out grown them a little... but they're still cute.

Which of her books do you like the best? I liked the "Protector of the Small" books personally.

Anyway TP inspired my SN on here (and everywhere else I use it). It's been a long time since I've met another fan.

Jen, I'm not 100% sure if this would work but get some graph paper and print out the picture you want on the graph paper... I think that might be a little easier than counting pixels!

As long as it lined up correctly then it should work- also should work for cross stitch!

Hiya

I'm Eli (pronounced Ellie!) from London.

I adore the musical of Wicked! and see it at least once a month here.

Just reading the novel and loving it - not highly publicised in the UK - I picked it up after Christmas courtesy of my boss' present of book tokens.

So I am 48 going on 16 (my mum calls me a recycled teenager!). Adore musicals and always have - have been known to go to far flung places to see them.

Currently addicted to Paris and French musicals - luckily Paris is a mere 2hrs 15 minutes away by train.

Just back from Lyon where we saw 'Dracula entre l'amour et la mort' with the amazing Bruno Pelletier, Matt Laurent and Sylvain Cossette.

Musically I am like 'cross-over' - Josh Groban, Il Divo, Ten Tenors, Mario Frangoulis etc as well as light opera, Gilbert & Sullivan (currently The Mikado is in London and its brilliant). French pop - far too many to mention.

Favourite musicals in London at the moment -Wicked!, Joseph, Avenue Q, Chicago. Seen Lord of the Rings a few times as it has one of my french friends in it!

Books - CSI type, female PI's, working my way through the Bloodties series. Angelique books, Phillipa Gregory, Maeve Binchy and Stephen Clarke's books about living in Paris.

Off in March to Utrecht to see 'Dirty Dancing', 'Fame' in Paris in April and Josh in 'Chess' in London in May!

Hobbies - card making, scrapbooking and jewellry making. Photography. And thinking of taking up knitting and crochet again as well as re-visiting cross stitch.

OK rambled on enough

Bises

I'm a Tamora Pierce fan, too...I had a feeling you might have read them, LLK. Hey, BlackOpal.

Sure you can call me Heart, Helen. Goodness. All of a sudden I feel so...welcomed...

And Jen- I don't know if knitting and crocheting are alike in that stitches are wider than they are tall, but if they are, you might want to find some knitter's graph paper or make your own with Microsoft Excel, and then print the logo onto that.

Yeah manually counting the pixels is a bad idea, I'd either end up in a looney bin or cross-eyed after like two rows ha. What I meant was I was thinking of making a program that counts them then spurts out however many you need to do before there is a change in color. I like the graph paper idea, that does sound like less work, but would that make the pattern really small? Nessa, I think single crochet stitches are as wide as they are tall, I never really thought about it. I'll have to experiment.

I don't know. I like the Song of the Lioness series, and maybe after that The Will of the Empress.
She was actually just the first author I could think of after Gregory Maguire as my favourite. I do love them though.
LostLadyKnight, I was wondering (and hoping) whether or not you got that from PotS.
Thanks for the welcome.

Eli, good to see you here! I loves Josh Groban too. I'm trying my hardest to get those tickets to see him and Idina in London. How amazing?!?

Phillipa Gregory is amazing.

And Adah, I just recently discovered Raul. I know that Saint A and a few other girls around him discovered him a long time ago and were pretty big fans. I only just discovered him recently though. He is wonderful.

BlacOpal I liked the Lioness books too. Actually I like all of them. PoTS was just my favorite series. I really liked Neil (had a crush on him.)

It looks like we have another fan in our midst, Nessa. I kinda wish that I was still as big a fan as I used to be. I kinda grew out of it when I was still in high school... but I was already LLK back then. TP still rocks though.

Phillipa Gregory is an author I haven't had a chance to read yet- but I've been dying to! I really like historical fiction and (for some reason) Anne Boylen.(I just butchered her name I think... meh.) I've put off buying anything of her because I'd hate to get one then not like it- with all you recommending her I'll have to shell out the money when I have it!

I don't have tickets for this yet because *techinically* that is major importance end of second year exam monday and tuesday, but LLK if you're coming then I'm there! Is it sold out? Haven't checked in a while. I'm only gonna get gallery seats because they're amazing anyway!

Eli - Hi! I'm so glad to have another English person around here. We're slowly gathering forces. I've just got back from London, literally 15 minutes ago (I live in Newcastle). I saw Wicked on friday, and then today.... I had a private backstage/set tour!!!! I am still way overexcited about it. And yesterday I went round the Avenue Q set and played with Kate and the Bad Idea Bears and the "Purpose" boxes and everything... it was so much fun. I am so excited about it still!

Anyway, welcome!

Oh, and a bizarre thing happened. I went into Waterstones and they had Son of a Witch (hardback green cover version) displayed on a table, so obviously I was very impressed and decided that if they had the lovely paperback I would buy it. When I asked for the paperback, he said it wasn't being published until April! So then I politely informed him that I'd had it out of the library almost two years ago. And we all got very confused.

Can we conclude that the stupid English people are going to reprint it with a nasty new cover, like they did with Wicked when the musical opened over here?

Newcastle upon Tyne, naturally!

Anywhere you sit in the RAH is kind of far away from the stage! I find that the gallery has the best sound, and you can still see everything.

Edited because I just booked a ticket! The gallery was full so I got resricted view in the circle because I'm poor. I decided to book because... ADAM PASCAL!!! is going to be in it as well!!!

What a cast. Josh Groban, Idina Menzel, Adam Pascal and Kerry Ellis. Wow.

Actually now I have seen it 9 times. I live only about an hour and a half away from the Pantages and its easy to get tickets the day before for like 90 bucks. So if my friends and I are not doing anything I go. Plus I was in LA for a training for work so I went twice by myself cause I had nothing to do but sit at my hotel room.

Hello everyone!

I'm Erin and I just recently finished reading Wicked for a school project, although I had been reading it anyways.

I wanted to see the show before I even knew it was a novel, however, after reading the synopsis I was sort of bothered by all the differences and I'm happy that I read the book first. (Yes I'm one of those annoying Harry Potter people complaining all the time about the movies...) Anyways, I LOVED the book. I couldn't put it down; I carried it wherever I went! I havent yet started SoaW yet due to the project I have to do on Wicked now (I dont want to get into it while I should be focusing on Wicke) but I'm looking foward to it!

Umm...I cant think of much else other than I live in Massachusetts (same area as PaN) and I'm really into art and fashion. OH! And I'm a Sophomore as well.

A "sophomore" is someone who is in their second year in school, whether it be high school (grades 9-12), or college.

Freshman - Year 1
Sophomore - Year 2
Junior - Year 3
Senior - Year 4

or is that just with an accent?

It's just a "silent o." It's there but we don't pronounce it. I'm sure there are some people who give it a small amount of notice but it's not prominent in the pronunciation.
