Okay, I just found out you are supposed to indtroduce yourself so, here I am: I am 24 years old and met my passion for Gregory Maguire through the Musical WICKED that I saw in London 2 months ago and since then just can not stop reading the books and listening to the music. Anything else you want to know?

Hey everyone,

I'm Josh and I'm a Junior in High School. I got hooked to Wicked when one of the choirs in my High School performed some of the songs of Wicked. I haven't seen the musical but that's something I'd love to do.

Right now I'm currently reading Wicked, Maguire's first book in the Wicked series. I have a couple of chapters left until I'm done. It's really intense. I'll probably contine the series all the way through.

I'd also like to see our High School do Wicked as our Spring Musical for 2010. I'm been researching the Wicked Musical and I've been wondering if this musical could be pulled off on a High School budget and equipment.

Welcome.

Good luck getting the rights to perform Wicked. It'll be quite a few years before the producers and director release the amateur rights to the public.

...because I'm weird like that.

Hey Josh!

Aside from the rights, I'd think that it depends on your school. I mean, my school could probably do Wicked with our Ragtime set from a few years back, they're so similar. Actually I think Eugene Lee designed the sets for both shows, but ours was a lot like the Wicked set. The biggest problem would probably be Defying Gravity...

Welcome!

Thanks to both of you. :-)

That really bursts my bubble/dream but it's okay. You would think that they would have released the rights to perform it by now since the opening of Wicked was in 2003.

Is getting the rights to perform Wicked a lot of work? Is it worth it? I'd definitely like to do this musical next year because I'll be a Senior. I don't have time to wait years and years.

My dream has died a bit but I can still do whatever I can to make it happen and like Elephaba, defy gravity.

I'm sorry if I come of as stupid about musicals and stuff like that. This year will be my first year performing in a musical and I was introduced to Wicked in 2007 so I haven't been in the Wicked scene long.

It's not really something you can do unless they've been released to the public. It's not like you can write a letter to Stephen Schwartz and ask him for the rights. They have to be released before anyone can get their hands on them. I don't see it happening anytime soon. They typically won't release the rights when the show is at a high point. And seeing how it still sells out theatres, it'll probably be a while.

Jumping on the band wagon, I'm wilson and you peeps get no info about where I live becuz I'm 12 and susceptible... I am a gifted student who reads way too much and loves it. I mention I'm gifted so I don't get discriminated against for writing messages and people don't listen just because I'm young. I am just as able to communicate and know things as all you stuck-up 21 year olds. JK. BTW, I beat FabalaFae and Mikayla!

Hey everyone,
I'm Leanne. I am new to the board, though I've been reading the posts for a couple of weeks now. I'm 23 and from Alabama. I work as a budget analyst. I just finished my master's in business, so thankfully I am done with school.

I read Wicked for the first time 4 years ago when I worked at Books-A-Million and I couldn't put it down. My mom and I went to NYC a couple of years ago and I, of course, had to get us tickets to see Wicked at the Gershwin. It was fantastic!! Eden Espinosa played Elphaba and Megan Hilty was Glinda.

Anyway, I'm reading Wicked for the second time now, and of course since it's been so long, it's like reading a brand new book. I remember parts, but then don't remember most of the details. I started Son of A Witch but only got about halfway through. I didn't find it nearly as interesting as Wicked.

As for other GM books, I do want to read Lost, but I haven't taken the time yet.

Hello . I'm Ellie, I'm 14 from Manchester in England (London isn't the only place in England!) I'm in High School, year 9 (I have no idea what grade that would be in the USA, anyone wish to tell me? I've always been really intrigued about that.) Okay I'll stop droning on. I first read Wicked about 3 years ago, I bought the book from Virgin Megastore in Downtown Disney, Florida (still remember it to this day ). The following year my music teacher offered to take a few of us to go and see it in London and I jumped at the chance. Now I'm in love with it and have asked for a good few GM books for Christmas! (I'm mainly interested in SoaW and Mirror Mirror). My General Interests are music, and I love to discuss various bands although my favourites are extremely english bands that nobody has probably heard of in America. I also enjoy fashion, films and my boyfriend . Over and out. Wow that was a long post.

I was 13 in the 9th grade, which would be about right since my birthday always fell late. How many years do you go to school? 12?

Hi My name is Anya and I am the new kid on the block. I am obsessive compulsive about Wicked and have read the book seven times and seen the play four times. I have also read Son of Witch three times and Lion Amoung Men twice. I have a feeling that no one will see this post but I have read in the rules that I need to at least introduce myself somewhere.

I am originally from Kansas City, MO and now live in Australia (also called OZ by the locals) and I am studying film and theater. I am very knowledgeable about history, literature, and science. And I enjoy trying to figure out what the author will write about next.

See you later.

Hey! I'm new here to this forum. The name's Amber. I'm 14 and I just started the Wicked series. I actually read SOAW and ALAM before I read Wicked. And I just finished Wicked and have started SOAW again so I can absorb everything. I love Wicked the book and musical. I saw the musical just last Christmas, and I'm seeing it again this August. I love musicals, and I've seen Phantom of the Opera, Mamma Mia!, Wicked, Cinderella, and I'm seeing Grease in two months. I know I might be an annoying newbie on here, but just bear with me! I'm still learning.
*Also is my signature too big? I wasn't sure.

Hey Amber! Nice to meet you.

Your signature is just a bit too big. The limit's 300x150 (whatever units that is), I believe; yours is 450x180. I really like it, though.

Well,

My name Im an aminal lover (save the rain forests!) as well as a certified bibliophile. I love all people just for them being people and it takes a real doosy to make me angry. My family always has a cat in the house (presently we have a one cat named Egypt and another called Malky) for some reason. I consider myself a witch but not in the same sense as Elpahaba does. I was voted most likely to end up in jail in junior high but that will probably not happen. My favorite number is either ten or thirteen, while my favorite drink would be Dr Pepper. I love the snow too!

So thats me all over. I would have made it all superduper long but I managed to stop myself somehow.

Wow WitchBoy AKA WestWitch07, I thought you were a girl :O unless... wait, i'm confused, is Loch a girl or a boys name?

I am doing this backwards, been posting for a while, I guess best to introduce myself. My real name is Shaye, I am from Sydney, Australia. I am 32 (I think I put 31 in another thread... oops.) 33 this year. I had my first child last year, Cassidy. And the year before that, I married my best friend of 10 years.
I read a lot. I love movies and music and I paint. Lately I don't seem to have time for any of my passions, but that's motherhood for you I suppose. I love this forum (though wish it were a little more modern), and I love that you frown on chat speak, I AM HOME!
Prior to becoming a mum I was in IT, tech support, help desk etc. Now I am the book keeper for our business. Not very exciting, but it means I can be a stay home mum, yay!

Hello.

Some of you may vaguely remember me, as I was a fairly active member of the board a while ago (1 year? 2? It's been a while). I was young then, and somewhat immature, I'm sure. I am now 16, and am still young, but I've grown up a lot in the past year. I was reminded of the board a couple weeks ago when I was in Borders and saw the new Maguire book, "A Lion Among Men." I have not had a chance to read it, but hopefully will soon. I am a junior in high school, so time is not often readily available for leisurely activities such as reading good books. However, when I do finally get around to it, I hope to have some insights because I have benefitted from amazing english teachers that have taught me about understanding literature.

So. I may be back. Then again, maybe not.

Yeah don't worry about it. I haven't read ALAM yet. I have it, and I started it, but it was slow inthe beginning and I couldn't get sucked in yet. Same thing happened to me at the beginning of Wicked when I first attempted to read in in college and SoaW later. I took breaks with both of them and when I was ready, I went back and enjoyed them so much more than I would have had I forced myself through it the first time.
