Yargh! Sometimes I really hate being a grown up. The day I turned 18 while the rest of the world was buying porn and cigarettes just because they could... I was driving up to NJ. Why? Because someone had to be there in person to sign foms and become POA (Power of Attorney) to my elderly grandmother. I don't regret it of course, because she did so much for me in my childhood but it just sucks being someone's POA. You have to make real life decisions. Well my grandmother is 95 years old and every year as I get older I realize that she's not going to live forever like I told her to when I was 6. The inevitable is going to happen. I'm starting to realize that it's sooner than I'm ever going to want to believe. I can't remember a time in my life that she wasn't there for me... being ten times the mother to me that my own mother ever was. She taught me everything about the moral person that I am today. She taught me how to read and write and that honesty is at all times the best policy. She used to cook me meals like Matza Ball soup or lentils that took 3 days to cook on the stove (I know we ate like jews lol), or this DISGUSTING mushroom chicken that I'd give anything to have again. She's the closest thing to a super hero I've ever had in my life... and probably the reason I turned out as normal as I did considering... wel everything about me. So I know you guys are all wondering why I'm here posting right? I've been asked to sign a preimptive DNR form. Everyone can see the decline in her health... as POA it's my responsiblity to decide what her wishes are and what's best for the whole family. I just... how do I sign a piece of paper asking them not to do everything in their power to keep my grandmother okay when I'm so terrified of the prospect of a world without someone who has always loved me as much as she does? How do I ask people not to do anything when the time finally comes? If it's what she wanted, and apparently it's in her will, then I have to right? But... it's my grandmother. My Mommom. It sucks. Sometimes I wish that I could still be 6 years old believing that she'd never die. Growing up is for the pitts and I've decided that I don't want to do it anymore. So, from now on, I'm 6 years old guys. ------------------ IP: Logged |

That's rough hon... I can't imagine having to make that decision for real. I hope that if I ever were in that situation that I'd be able to figure out what would truly be best for the other person. What will their life be like if are living off of machines? Would they want to live like that? Are they in constant pain? This all is a lot easier if you can speak with that person- but unfortunately you don't always have that option HUGHUGHUGHUGHUGHUGHUGHUG IP: Logged |

a total moral dilemma, hard as it may be is the best thing not to honour yer grannies wishes, it would be her who may be living in pain or discomfort is she survived some trauma and was resuscitated. she cant go on forever. IP: Logged |

Maybe you can think of something you really want to do or say, or anything before you sign the paper. Don't so anything you'll regret, but I agree, I think you should honor her wishes. I'm really sorry for you. I'll send good energy your way.IP: Logged |

AdahPrice: I CAN'T believe I didn't get the reference! I knew the name rung a bell but... anyways. I love The Poisonwood Bible. I had to read it for a college course a bit back. I need to get a new copy because mine got some laundry detergent on it. LLK (I think it was you who asked this) yes, Adah was the sister who walked with a limp most of her life. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Hah, well, you never know, maybe they'll find some way to edit your screen name. And yes, Poisonwood Bible is one of my favorite books, glad it is catching on. Edit: I have a question, since I am new, I would like to know about past members or moderators who have left, and to see what I have missed. Any thoughts? hmmm, thats a tough one to answer. there have been alot of people to come and go from these boards. the ones that we remember though...there are still lots. it might be easier to update you on things when they come up in conversation. although if you read this thread from start to finish, you might get a pretty good idea. ------------------ IP: Logged |

AdahPrice, There are WAY too many people around here to name everone who has left. I mean... there are just too many poeple. If I started making a list for you I'm sure I'd forget some people. I'd tell you all of the people who are gone that I miss greatly but I'd be afraid that I'd cause hurt feelings. You're welcome to email or AIM me. Both of which, I believe, can be found in my profile. Then if you ask about anyone in particular, any member who has posted past or present, I coudld probably tell you a bit about them. You could aslo ask me any questions you might want to about anything or anybody around here. That, however, is up to you. The mods that have left, that I know of, are Buttercup, Booklady, and Saint Aelphaba. I have to admit that I don't keep up well enough with everyone else on the current mod list to know if they're all still around or not. Anyway... feel free to ask me anything via email or aim if you want. If not... that's totally gravy too. I agree with just telling you to read back over old posts. The Rants and Raves, General Chinwagging, and Getting to Know Ourselves Again thread would be good places to start. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I still wonder where St A went. I'm supposed to be revising (history of the designed landscape) but I've just got onto Islam and keep coming across Andalusia which makes me think Andalasia - Enchanted - Idina - Rent/Wicked - closing/going in 2 weeks... long path of distractedness. I'm not getting anywhere, so I'm going to Lush. I was on the website last night and put about £40 worth of stuff in my basket... can't afford all that! Edited because I just learned the difference between BC and BCE, and AD and CE, and I am proud. And now I'm going to Lush. [This message has been edited by munchkin (edited 01-21-2008).] IP: Logged |

Lol. Yeah a lot of us modorators still post very frequently. Saint A left. We were all very sad about it and a bit confused as to why. I know I must be really dense though... because seems to me like she must have had a good reason. I just, for the life of me, don't know what it was. I wonder why you were curious about her, though, of all people? There were SO many people who haven't posted in a while. She's a good one though. That Saint A. I bet, from what I know of you, you would have really liked her. So... I take it you won't take me up on the offer to email me? ------------------ IP: Logged |

LLK: In reference to your Gandmother let me offer the most heartfelt hugs I have to give. You see, I've been in your position. Not POA but when my grandmother suddenly had a massive heart attack about six years ago I had to sit with my grandfather and try to override his decisions. Now that was tough, because my grandparents pretty much raised me. (I had working parents) My grandmother was the only best friend that I've ever had. I told her things that I wouldn't even tell friends. And she told me how she never wanted to be like my great grandmother. (She had a stroke and wasn't able to speak or move for over eight years and Nanny didn't want to be that way if anything happened to her.) Anyway Nanny wasn't going to get better and I told the doctor that she didn't want any life saving measures. Gramp said save her, but they just couldn't. It was horrible because I didn't get to say goodbye. My best advice to you is to go with what you know your Grandmother would want. Ask her even. If that's still a posibility. And if she's coherent and up to it ask her to tell you how to make your favorite dishes that you spoke about. Or even just try and get her on video talking about her life ..really whatever you'd want to remember. I'm sorry if that sounds morbid. I just know how much I miss my Nanny and what I wish I had done. IP: Logged |

from msn.com 6 Prescription Drugs Found at Scene of Ledger's Death NEW YORK (AP) -- Six different types of prescription drugs were found in Heath Ledger's apartment — including anti-anxiety medications and sleeping pills — though the cause of his death won't be known for several days after a preliminary autopsy Wednesday was inconclusive, authorities said. Three of the six prescription drugs were prescribed in Europe, according to two law enforcement officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing. It included a frantic call to former "Full House" star Mary Kate Olsen, a massage therapist desperately trying to wake him, and a maid who was in Ledger's bedroom in the moments before he died. Police said Ledger probably died sometime between 1 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday of what authorities say may be an accidental drug overdose. A rolled-up $20 bill was also found on the floor near the Australian actor's bed, but lab tests detected no traces of drug residue. Police also said no illegal drugs were found in the apartment. Ledger's housekeeper, Teresa Solomon, arrived at his apartment with her own key and let herself in. At 1 p.m., she went to his bedroom to change a light bulb, and saw Ledger sleeping and heard him snoring. She left the room without thinking anything was wrong. At 2:45 p.m., a masseuse named Diana Wolozin showed up for her massage appointment with Ledger, who didn't answer when she knocked on his door. She then tried to call him on his cell phone, but again got no response. She went into the bedroom, set up her massage table and again tried to wake Ledger. Wolozin told police that Ledger was cold to the touch, but she just assumed he was unconscious. She proceeded to grab his cell phone and call Mary Kate Olsen, whose number is programmed into the phone. Wolozin knew that Olsen and Ledger were friends, and she asked Olsen for advice on what she should do next. Olsen, who also lives in Manhattan but was in California at the time, responded by saying she would send over her private security guards to help deal with the situation. In the ensuing moments, Wolozin realized that Ledger might be dead, and called 911. The emergency operator provided Wolozin directions on how to do CPR, but it was too late. Paramedics arrived minutes later — at about the same time as Olsen's security guards. Fans left flowers and candles outside his Manhattan apartment on Wednesday. News of the death stunned family, fans and colleagues. "Working with Heath was one of the purest joys of my life," said Ang Lee, who directed Ledger in "Brokeback Mountain." ------------------ IP: Logged |

I know we're not supposed to discuss recordings etc, but please please please just... avert your eyes please.I just got hold of something called "rent 46 track demo 1994 (before NYMF)". It seems to me like it's pre-NYTW. Does anyone know if it is? There are a couple of songs I haven't heard before. Edited because I just listened to more and I am so freakin excited! This is just bizarre. I have no idea what's going on sometimes. There's a song called "Because you were right" and there's a bit of "Tango:Maureen" in the beginning. I don't actually know who's singing... I thought it was Roger and Mark but it doesn't sound like Anthony Rapp... kind of sounds like Jonathan Larson, but not that much. It's really weird. I don't have the tracks in the right order so if anyone already has this please let me know! It's probably something everyone has and I'm really behind... that happened with the NYTW recording. Ah well. Edited again... I am just so excited by this. It's definitely pre-NYTW. La Vie Boheme has the same lyrics to the version on Jonathan Sings Larson, and that version is 1992. Neither Anthony Rapp or DRV are on this demo, and (correct me if I'm wrong) they were around from day 1. This is old. I so love listening to old versions of Rent. I don't do it with anything else, but with Rent I just love the way things progress. I especially love the extra verse in La Vie Boheme and the transition between LVB A and B, before I Should Tell You was in the middle. I'm so happy! quote: I have it, it's a really interesting listen. I've had it for a bit but didn't listen to it until recently because I hadn't seen Rent on stage and didn't want to ruin it. It's interesting but I think I like the way it ended up after NYTW much better though, but it's very cool to see how much it evolved. IP: Logged |

Do you have the tracks in the right order? I would be very grateful for a list! I got about half way through and then lost it completely. I do like the way Rent ended up, but I really do love the early versions. I just wish it could have been taken even further. IP: Logged |

I think they are in the right order because it came labeled with track numbers, but I don't know enough about Rent to be positive. Here's what I have . . . 1. Voice Mail #1 When I got it, it was labeled as the 46 Track Pre-NYTW Demo, but there are only 45 files. I don't know if someone combined two of the tracks or I'm missing one or what . . . IP: Logged |

munchkin Member |
I only have 45 files as well. That list seems good, thank you! I almost had the first 20 right, just hadn't got a couple of the new ones in there. That helps put NYTW in the right order as well, I had a couple of tracks I couldn't fit in there! Thank you! I still haven't got over how old this recording is, as far as I can make out Maureen and Joanne are both played by guys, and Angel by a woman! IP: Logged |
