I recieved this as a foward email , I believe every person should read this. And please, read every line. This is a woman who should be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize:

> Nobel Prize Is Sought for Polish Heroine
> BY ALEX STOROZYNSKI - Special to the Sun
> January 29, 2007

> A class project by four high-school girls from
> Kansas has spurred a
> grassroots movement to nominate for a Nobel Peace
> Prize a woman who
> rescued 2,500 Jewish children from the Nazis - a

> A Polish social worker, Irena Sendler, who turns 97

> smuggled children out of the Warsaw ghetto and

> Mrs. Sendler stashed the identities of the children

> was to dig up the jars
> after the war and reunite the children with their
> families.
> Mr. Peres has written a letter to President
> Kaczynski of Poland saying
> he agrees with growing Polish sentiment that Mrs.
> Sendler "should be

> "This brings me great joy, but on the other hand,

> Sendler told the Sun
> in a telephone interview from the nursing home where

> Warsaw.
> Mrs. Sendler's story was buried when the Soviet > Union imposed communism

> In 1999, three Union High School ninth-graders,

> "Irena Sendler changed my life. As a teacher, she

It sounded to me like the portrayal of Neo-Pagan witches was another well-intentioned but misguided parade of harmless lunatics, and the portrayal of Satanism sounded completely off-base. And then, of course, there was the "former witch" author woman, but I cannot blame the producers for wanting to appear "balanced," I suppose....

But, as I said, I did not watch it, so I too would be somewhat interested to hear from someone who did.

Tyra bothers me also. The few times I've seen the show, I ended up feeling that she was genuinely trying to get to the heart of some matter, but then fell way short of making an actual point. Anyway, i did think it encouraging at first that she would focus on Neo-Paganism at all, but in the one promo I saw they kept using words like "black magic" and the others you mentioned, yet didn't use terms like Neo-Paganism or Wicca at all. Which seemed somewhat ridiculous if that's really what the show was about. So I wondered if the program itself was less sensational than the ads for it, although I'm sure you are right and probably it was not.

The problem seems, to me, to be that she is so absurdly self-centered.

She begins to sound as though she is about to say something meaningful, but she always twists every topic around--everything, even if does not remotely apply to her, like obesity--to make it about herself, and just ends up being sickening.

You're right, I am very cynical about how that episode turned out. I have yet to see a satisfactory portrayal of Wicca or Neo-Paganism on any program--the History Channel had a few programs that treated Satanism extremely fairly--and I am sure that the Tyra Banks Show was not going to be the first.

She has mentioned on many of her shows that she is determined to be the next Oprah. She even gained like 70 lbs in her quest to be her. I absolutely hate Tyra Banks for so many reasons. Usually I don't have such strong negative feelings for anyone, but the things she does... grr!

I really hope that's not why she put on all that weight. Where'd you hear that from?

Well, she only gained around thirty pounds, and I am sure she did not gain it just because she wants to "be" Oprah.

But with regard to Tyra's whole weight debaucle, her response to the criticism surrounding her weight gain made me cringe. Kiss her "fat" ass?

The newly found thirty pounds only puts her at around one hundred sixty pounds. That weight on a woman with a statuesque six-foot-or-so frame does not amount to anything close to "fat." Just look at her--she looks thicker, but she is hardly globular.

How about quitting the whining and attention-grubbing and leaving the "fat" label for those to whom it actually applies.

Yeah, no doubt, Tyra is living in a fantasy world if she thinks weighing 160 pounds at her height makes her fat. On the other hand, by model standards she probably does feel fat, but that still doesn't make me feel sorry for her. Besides, from what I heard, her general message was supposed to be that it was okay to be fat, but then she was so defensive about her own weight she kind of lost all credibility on that end....

I saw pictures of her and her newly added thirty pounds. I didn't think she looked fat at all, just normal. I'm sure no one wants to put on thirty pounds but hey, it happens. I think she's afraid of being mocked because her whole career has been built on modeling and the idea that thin is beautiful. Now she seems to be very self-conscious and she's backtracking.

It's funny how no one really said she was fat. She was the only one who did.

According to some magazine, I probably shouldn't trust a magazine, she gained like 60 but the producers of Next Top Model told her she couldn't host it if she didn't lose 30 lbs. So maybe her net gain was 30?

She went from 148 to 162. She gained 14 pounds. She is now 33 years old, and has been a model since she was 16. I say, she looks great. And deserves a break.

SoulOverflowing, I would have to disagree with you. I think she seems plenty confident, and is showing no signs of backtracking.

She is not the only one who called herself fat. Many, many people did, before she made a statement about her weight gain.
Thats all I have to say about that.

Would I be correct in assuming you are coming back? If so then welcome back. It's great to have you here again.

However she claims she fluctuates anywhere from 148 to 162. Meaning her weight isn't constant, it goes up and down all the time. However she gained almost thirty lbs. from 1997 when she was on the cover of Sports Illustrated. One the other hand, yes she deserves a break, and certainly doesn't look fat.

Actually you misunderstood. She is definetly gone. The fact that she came back to argue and then left again is completely beside the point. She is definetly not here in anyway whatsoever.

I sincerely hope you aren't feeling "good feelings" in regards to the death of Anna Nicole Smith, because if so, that was an extremely insensitive thing for you to say. Just because she may not have been the smartest or most talented or most generous person out there doesn't mean that she doesn't have a family who loves her. I'd be sickened if one of my family members died and all I heard was "I could care less." I may not have liked ANS, and I don't plan on doing anything about it, but I still feel sorry for her and her family, and I don't know what I'd do if I were in her shoes after the year she's had.

Edit: This rant could very likely be due to the fact that my dad's sick, and if you didn't mean to apply "good feelings" to ANS's death, ignore it, Saint A.

And welcome, A Blue Diamond! I doubt anyone around here's going to not like you for a) stating your opinion or b) having feelings.

Nah, my second part of the post had absolutely nothing to do with Anna Nicole Smith. I personally am obstain to the woman's death. I really don't care for her. Yes it's sad that she left her children, but it was her fault, in my opinion. Because she had a very messed up life.

Anyyyway.

Well. I figure, I haven't been flamed yet today, so I might as well say this anyway and let the flames begin again. I have the same reaction to Anna Nicole Smith's death as I did to that one guy that played with crocodiles. Did anyone really expect anything different? I sincerely hope that both possible "fathers" meant it when they faught for the title, because he is now that little girl's salvation. Beyond having at least some semblance of worry about that, I really couldn't care less.

Anyway, the talk of jokes reminded me of one that I started to tell on another thread but never got to finish.

PLEASE BEAR WITH IT. This is not really a prejudicial joke, but when it was first told to me I thought it was very funny:

What do you call a black man who flies a plane?

If you have heard this before please give it some time--don't ruin it.

*hides under table* Abstain! I meant abstain! *runs away from tomatoes*

Oh and I'm horrible at jokes, so I have no idea!

You poor dear, you cannot be "abstain to the woman's death." That doesn't make any sense!

Abstain is a verb, not an adjective, and it means to deliberately refrain from performing or from taking part in some action or activity.

It sounded like you were trying to say something like "I am indifferent to the woman's death" or perhaps "I shall obstain from becoming too involved in discussions concerning the woman's death."

Anyway, some other people need to have a go at my joke--otherwise I feel a fool with that seemingly off-color question just hanging there.
