Shoshana? I don't think it would happen. Although she might be too old, Ana would light up the screen.
It's a good thing we aren't casting directors for a living because some of the choices have been too far out there.

Okay, I don't aprove of a movie verson of the musical, but a movie verson of the book would be okay IF they stuck closly to the story of the novel and did not sugar-coat the story as the musical did.

NO, a book version would be BAD. They would Hollywoodize it because that's what Hollywood does. And that would make me very sad. But I would have to go see it because the book is so good...and then it would ruin my day. I mean, it could be good, but I highly doubt it. I have seen ONE movie that was actually better than the book it was based on (Whale Rider--the book is awful and choppy and hard to get through but the movie is excellent), so I'm not saying it's impossible, just very unlikely.

I think if they made the movie based on the musical but with a slightly darker tone it would turn out really well. And maybe they could split the roles so that the college scenes can be played by younger actresses. Then they could have 5 or 10 years pass between I'm Not That Girl and One Short Day. And then Kristin and Idina can pick up the parts at "Defying Gravity" Or something like that. That way, critics won't harp on the ages so much...not that we should care what the critcs think or anything.

Actually, "Lord of the Rings" did not "Hollywoodize" the books too badly.

Yeah but the sad fact is, not many movie going teens who don't like Broadway actually know of her. Although the ones who do (ahem, us) love her to death, we are in the minority. Ask a random person on the street who Idina Menzel is, chances are they won't know. Ask them who Eminem is, and...sigh, I really don't want to finish this sentence, please don't make me.

Hopefully, if Ask the Dust ever comes out, it might put her on the map.

Since there are no immediate plans for a movie, why would contracts be drawn up? I think this can be listed as rumour & wishful thinking, unless someone here has actually seen the contracts.

I agree; what if the movie is made ten years from now, which is most likely? Idina will be forty two...MUCH too old to play Elphaba. Kristin will be nearing fifty.

It's just not possible that their contracts would say that. Don't get so excited.

I agree with EoO...it's just not very likely. Also, maybe the next time you say something like that, you could show a little evidence that it is more than a rumor? My plan for a Wicked movie would be to film it now, with the original cast, and just touch it up over the years if special effects improve a ton. And then release it after the hype has died down. That way (almost) everyone is happy.

I know that Idina and Kristin aren't big Hollywood names, but it would be nice to have them. After all, who is better for the part?! The rest of you are, unfortunetly, probabley right. Considering how RENT did, its not the best idea...even though I loved it...But Wicked has only been a show since 2003! That is too soon to make a movie of it! RENT just got made, but it was first seen in 1996 and became musical history! Phantom was made last year and has been on Broadway for god knows how long! I'm not sure...I'll miss Idina's voice...and Kristin's! I love it!!!!!!

Kristin is actually becoming a bit more of a name. I don't watch "The West Wing", but a friend of mine is seriously addicted to it & says that Kristin is very good in it. She also did the Old Navy commercials & was very cute.

I think the contract that some members are referring to was posted a few pages back. I think that if a movie is made the producers have the right to ask the originators to do it. So the actors may be bound that way, yet if the producers don't want them, they won't use them.
Perhaps an insurance method for the investors to use to their advantage?

Wouldn't that be great if they were secretly doing that now?....which i doubt....but what if Kristin and Idina stopped what they were doing now...(and the OBC) and go sumwhere secret to do it...............that would be sooooooo cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While there is no script for wicked the musical there is a script that was written in 1996 right after the book came out. The script was to become a movie but after a few readings they decided it wouldn't be best to make the film. I think its only a matter of time until we see wicked on the big screen. I don't think making it true to the book however would be a good idea. What everyone thinks of when the here of OZ is the 1939 movie. To make a movie version of the book would be a big shock to devoted fans of the 39 film. To see no sining or fantanstical scenes would be a blow. The musical while it has greatly altered the book would be much more accepted. I mean in the book elphaba kills this poor old lady who is helpless. Glinda is never really "nice". So i think it would be easier and more realistic to see Wicked the musical before we see Wicked based on the novel. As for actors Idina would be perfect, Glinda however is a little harder to cast i saw Kristen two times and I saw Megan 2 times and i would have to say I like Megans Glinda better and i think she would be perfect for the role. Maddame morrible I love carol shelly but someone posted Bette Middler and i think she would do really well too. The rest of the cast begins to get a little harder expecially if you want to ahve a few big names in there to draw more of an audience. I am keeping my fingers crossed that we get to see this movie very soon.

I doubt it will be very soon, the musical has only been onstage for 2 1/2 years. I continue to hope that there isn't a movie made & the numbers for Rent & The Producers don't bode well for the future of movie musicals.

I think it should be original cast mostly, but after seeing Menzel's performance during the awards I really like Stephanie J. Block's performance. Her voice was amazing and she does the character almost exactlly like Menzel. She would be good to, though I'm sure that Menzel would do good on the movie, since she has like a thousand times to get it right

Little bit of an insult I guess, but more along the lines of constructive criticism. I mean she was horrible on defying gravity on the awards. And I think Block is an extremely good Elphaba
