1. Movie magic can make an actor look significantly younger, but they're not going to make Carole Shelley look like Kristin Chenoweth anytime soon. There is a limit, and maybe Kristin and Idina will be past that if and when a movie is made. 2. Everyone is talking about, ooh, Idina, she had better be in the movie *if they make one*. I, however, am wondering what I wouldn't give to see Kristin Chenoweth in her role as G(a)linda. So far the list consists of my firstborn child, who at this point doesn't exist anyway. I'd also love to see Michelle as Nessa. There's my four cents. Two cents times two points. IP: Logged |

You asked for imaginative Wicked movie ideas, so here goes. With the unquestionable iconic popularity of the original Wizard of OZ movie, how about this idea. Master CGI developers take the character images from the Wizard of Oz (Judy Garland - Dorothy, Margaret Hamilton - Elphaba, etc.) and they transpose them into the new world of WICKED. Popular hollywood stars could still play the "voices" of the characters, just like in animated CGI movies, but we would be witnessing an almost seamless story from the 1939 Wizard of OZ movie and the movie version of WICKED. Popular actors could play some of the characters from WICKED not developed in the Wizard of OZ such as young Fiyero, Boq, Nessarose, Madame Morrible. How cool to have Bette Midler as Morrible interacting with Frank Morgan (Wizard from the original Wizard of OZ movie). A creative CGI team would create the original characters from the Wizard of OZ, and make them move and populate the new surroundings filmed in WICKED. CGI pros could tweak Margaret Hamilton's images to make her a bit younger for the beginning of the movie, and then by the end of the movie we would be seeing Margaret Hamilton brought back to life the way we always knew her. Her voice may be slightly different because she would have her voice being played by another actor. I believe this concept could be a huge hit and leap in film technology; being the first of it's kind. With all the "remakes" Hollywood has put out that have been "not as good as the original", what a magical moment it would be to sit in a theater and watch the Wizard of OZ characters brought back to life. The producers and directors of WICKED the movie need to see the opportunity and create a movie that will last through the generations. The Muppet Wizard of OZ was a sad effort at remaking a classic. Without the proper care, WICKED the movie will be a "puff" in cinematic history rather than the supernova explosion it could be. Just thinking in an Unlimited way! Clint Hillman IP: Logged |

And it's refreshing to see a post that doesn't say how wonderful such&such an actress in such&such a touring company is the BEST Nessarose, or whatever. SO not the subject at hand. IP: Logged |

I hope that they make the Movie Wicked...but after the show closes on Broadway. I hope that they can have Kristin and Idina in it! I wouldn't want to see anyone else try to "take their places" in the movie. Especially anyone from Disney!!! (hint hint: Hillary Duff) Sorry if I offended anyone! IP: Logged |

Don't hit me if I'm wrong. But my stepdad heard they actually are making a movie and Idina Menzel will star. He may have been yanking my chain, but I think he was serious. *Shrieks!* Once again, don't hit me if this has already been said or if I end up being wrong. lol IP: Logged |

Do you know who would play a really great Elphaba? I think Anne Hathaway. (shes mia from princess diaries). She has a good voice and I think she definitely has the look. But, my top choice would of course be the OBC. I mean, Idina was just in Rent (which was AMAZING!) so why wouldn't she be able to be in a movie version of Wicked? IP: Logged |

OMG YOU ARE ARE CRAZY, CRAZY, CRAZY. I hope they NEVER make a "Wicked" movie. It's not a show like "Rent" I don't call any off you, who are sujesting they make a movie now loyal "Wicked" fans. There is a reason they call it "live theater." IT IS SUPPOESED TO BE LIVE!!!!!! If I sound a little harsh, I am sorry, but come on. Anyone who has a brain at all would not even cosider making a movie of "Wicked" untill it is off Broadway. And that could be in twenty or more years. I am sorry., but the people your are sudjesting now would be too old by then. And have you heard anyone of these people sing? I THINK NOT. You can fantizie all you want. But in my eyes, you who sujust people like you are sujesting, are NOT true "Wicked" fans. Trur "Wicked" fans in my eyes are those who love the theater and appricite those who preform and don't wish for a movie tommorow. IP: Logged |

I disagree. Yes some of the actors that have been named are a bit off, but Wicked would be a good adaption to film, like Chicago. If you ask me Rent was much more difficult to do, yet it was done, (very well, I might add). Wicked won't be making any debutes for a few years, but I have a feeling that once a new show takes America by storm, Wicked will fly into movie houses. IP: Logged |

And I disagree with you, I don't see "Rent" taking place in a land over the rainbow. I was a little harsh. But what I was trying to say is that I hope they don't make a movie of "Wicked" for at least 15 or 20 years. And hopfully the producer of the movie will chose people who are best for the parts, not the people the board hs been mentioning. IP: Logged |

WickedTheaterGirl, I don't want to be rude, but there are people who don't consider the musical & its fans to be "True Wicked Fans." Wicked started as a novel, "Wicked, the Life & Times of the Wicked Witch of the West",not a musical & many fans of the novel consider themselves to be the "True Wicked Fans." If you are a long time member, you know that this site is for anyone who is a fan of Gregory Maguire's novels, as well as the musical adaptation of his novel. Anytime a play is a big success, there is talk of a movie & if I remember right, "The Producers" was a movie before it was a play, as was "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" so it works both ways. I don't want a movie of "Wicked" to ever be made, but that is just me. However, if it happens someday, I would prefer the musical because I don't want the original novel to be "Hollywoodized" anymore than it already has been for the stage. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, including you, but please don't tell any of us that we are not "True Wicked Fans" because other than the occasional troll who visits, the members here are all fans of some facet of Gregory Maguire's books & characters, whether it be "Wicked, The Life & TImes of the Wicked Witch of the West", "Wicked the Musical", "Son of a Witch" or any of the other books he has written. You will also find occasionals discussions of the man who started it all over 100 years ago, L.Frank Baum who created the world of OZ in the first place, without whom, none of this would have happened. Okay I am saying sorry. I guess what sent me off the handle was people sujesting the worst possible actors for the movie and not being that serious. You are right, I would rather a movie of the muscial than of the book. If I offended anyone, I am SO, SO, SO SORRY I just go to the theater more than I go to the movies. And I have found the theater productions better than the movie productions. Just my opition thought. Ounce again, I am truely sorry. IP: Logged |

I dont know about you guys, but i would want Idina and Kristin and that's that...lol, but as for morrible, i think Julie Andrews would be good, and Ewen McGregor for fyero. if they couldnt get kristin for galinda, then i guess Reese Witherspoon.....only if she could sing. but the only person i would want for elphie, would be idina! lol. and as long as RENT does ok-ish, there shouldn't be a problem with her getting the role, that is, if they make the moive. You guys are niot thinking straight. As long as Wicked is on Broadwya, there can't be a movie until its off because of copywright laws. So, whoever heard it was coming out, you're very wrong. There porbably won't be a movie for ten years... IP: Logged |

Depending on how well Rent does at the box office, there may not ever be a movie of "Wicked." Movie musicals are risky & unless Rent doess extremely well, there won't be a lot of new ones coming out. If there is, I would be willing to bet that they will go with a younger cast. Many of the reviews for Rent are noting that the OBC are really too old to be playing the characters. Idina Menzel is getting good reviews for her singing, but her acting apparently leaves a bit to be desired. Taye Diggs, Jessie L Martin, etc are wonderful performers, but none of them look like they are in their early 20's anymore. IP: Logged |

It's true that the musical Chicago has "brought" back musicals to the big screen. Although I loved Rent, the movie version, I don't see it winning the awards and acclaim Chicago did. Yet, The Producers will be out in December. Will that go over well? I feel that the fate of Wicked won't be decided anytime soon. It will be years before it's even an option. As far as age goes, I didn't have one problem with the cast of Rent and their ages. I don't think it was that unbelievable. Unlike, Kevin Spacy in Beyond the Sea. India's acting? Seriously, I can't comment on it. She really has this star presence on screen. That along with her voice, was enough for me to love her perfromance, and I'm not a die hard fan like some of you. Have to agree with Kevin Spacey in "Beyond the Sea." I love him & think he is an amazing actor, but way too old to play Bobby Darin. "Beyond the Sea" was a movie he wanted to do for years, I just wish he had done it when he was younger. IP: Logged |

The producers as been out at least, 3 or 4 years? the movie's already got commercials on tv, and you think wicked wont be ready until 10? no offense, but i think wicked's been more succesful than the producers, i wouldnt be surprised if it came out in the next 4-7 years. althought they would probobly wait because it would hurt ticked sales... U cant honestly say that u all can see people like Adam Brody, bill cosby, and natalie portman in Wicked. I really dont think they could do it well without Idina Menzel and the rest or most of the Origional cast. If they did, i think it would just take away from the magic and feel of the story to see such popular movie and TV actors playing the parts that clearly werent ment for them. It would just never happen. I also agree with Wickedtheatergirl that musical movies def. take away from the point of broadway and i think that if they made a Wicked movie some of what i love about wicked would be lost. Seing the Origional cast on the stage performing this amazing story just cant be the same on a screen..it just cant. but then, not everyone is able to experience theater and it is pretty cool to see america getting excited for a movie that is a musical. The people who go to see musicals in the theater are not going to stop seing them because they make a movie of that musical. I dont care what anyone says. Seing a movie will never come close to seing something live on stage [This message has been edited by SinginQT (edited 11-27-2005).] IP: Logged |

THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! There is someone out there who does agree with me on the subject of a "Wicked" movie! Your right SinginQT. There is a reason why they put things on a stage. Because they were made for the stage! Not for a movie set. If they ever made a movie of "Wicked" the book or the musical. I would never go see it. The movies, in my opition, are just stealing from Broadway these days. I mean, if Broadway is going to survive, then orignal Broadway productions need to stay on Broadway. The stage is something special. Ok, you can't have 500 extras, huge battle sequiences on stage. But you can do alot with the stage. I mean, "Wicked" had flying and fire-breathing dragons! And the people you talk about for the cast, come on. Natalie Portman, Even McGregor, give me a break people! USE YOUR BRAINS!!!!! IP: Logged |

As i said when i edited my first post. you def. have a point that the movies take away from stage experience, but im gonna restate that people who love theater arent going to stop loving it because they can see the same thing in the movies. im not completely against seing a movie of a musical, because i think its cool to say the way they put the musicals into movie form (although i didnt like the way they did phantom of the opera..but thats a different story)but the movies just dont compair and anyone who goes to see things on broadway knows that IP: Logged |

Actually, Broadway is stealing more from the movies these days than vice versa. The movies are stealing crappy tv shows, not plays. Many of the most popular shows on Broadway were movies or based on movies before they were plays. The Producers (based on a Mel Brooks movie), Rent (based on La Boheme), Wicked (several things from the original MGM film Wizard of Oz), Dirty Rotten Scoundrels & Phantom of the Opera are just a few. IMO, there is very little true creativity these days. Everyone borrows from something else, whether it is television, movies, theatre, music. As for the original cast being the best, the touring company & Chicago casts seem to doing quite well. The show is still on Broadway, the cast has changed several times & is still doing very well. Everyone has their favorites & no one will agree on a perfect cast, should a movie ever be made. As in the case of Chicago, they will go with who will sell the most movie tickets, not necessarily who was in the original play, especially since a lot of theatre actors have a hard time adjusting to the different medium of film. The big gestures needed on stage don't really translate well to film. If Rent doesn't have big box office numbers, the chances of more musicals will be slim. You do bring up a point booklady. Your right. The movies are stealing more from TV than Broadway. I guess I am just so loyal of a theater fan, I get way to carried away. But I do fear that Broadway is slowly dying out. These days there are 3-D movies, great visual effects. I feel as if the U.S. is forggeting about the beauty and magic of the live theater. "Wicked" helped bring back the theater to America. But why do I feel as if Broadway minght not surive forever. But what I want to know know is why do all of you people want a movie made of "Wicked" in the near furtue? The next five to ten years? Why? IP: Logged |

I don't want a movie of Wicked ever made, but that is just me. I think that people might want to see a movie made for several reasons: 1.Wicked is currently very popular, so movie talk is inevitible. 2. Not everyone has access to Broadway or even to live theatre. A lot of cities & towns don't even get the touring companies of major musicals. 3. The cost of a theatre ticket as opposed to a movie ticket. When I took my sister & niece to see Wicked, I spent nearly 200.00 on tickets for the 3 of us & this was for the touring company performance in Dallas. We had awesome seats & I don't regret the expense, but it took a big bite out of my entertainment budget. No way could I do that on a monthly basis. I am however, thinking of getting a subscription to the Dallas Summer Musicals so that other events won't cost so much. 4. The age of the performers. There have been a lot of favorable reviews for Rent. However, the general consensus among critics & some audience members is that the original cast is too old to play these roles. Taye Diggs & Jesse L. Martin just don't look like they are in their early 20's any longer, although they are wonderful performers. IP: Logged |

I am very happy that you agree with me that a movie version of "Wicked" should never bee made. You did list great resons why people would want a movie made. And one more question: for you who want a movie made, why do you think the people you have sujested would be best? IP: Logged |

Many of the suggested actors have had me cringe. Really, Hillary Duff and Natalie Portman? Please. I would love for Indina to play the role, but it may not happen. She may not be available and she may be "too old". Although, I didn't care about the age issue of the actors in Rent, but I'm not a movie critic. I think there will be someone just as talented. If a movie will take place, the show has so many fans, I don't think they would risk not doing it justice. I will say this though, Reece Witherspoon is 28 years old, and has worked with Universal and Marc Platt, who own the rights to Wicked. I think her as Glinda would really be a smart choice. (I know some of you have said it in the past). IP: Logged |

I miust say Reese, is an amazing woman as weel as actress. But she is not the kind of singer needed to play Elphie. I dont see a reason why Idina couldn't play Elphie. She was awesome in Rent. I don't think she is too old at all! the orginal cast should be casted as was done in Rent. I thought it was a really good idea! IP: Logged |

I think the main thing that could prevent Idina from being in the movie (if they ever make one) is age. Die hard fans won't care how old she is, but critics & many audience members won't buy Idina or any of the recent/current cast members as being in their early 20's, especially if the movie is made 10 years or so down the road. Idina is beautiful, but I don't think she will be able to play a 20-something when she is 40. IP: Logged |

I've thought about this a lot and apparently I wasn't the only one. I can totally seen a Wicked movie in the form of a musical and why not? I will die happy if they do. I could totally see it dark but colorfull in a Tim Burton Charlie and the Chocolate Factory sort of way. I haven't given much thought as to who would play the characters I'd just love to see it made (the most of the orginal broadway cast would be ideal as I love both Kristin and Indi. It would be nice to see almost more stage with false backgrounds in the way the Wizard of Oz was. I'd shriek like a school girl. Lets see who I would I cast just off the top of my head. Elphie - Angelina Jolie (Lol just kidding on that.) Sarah-Michelle Gellar Edit: I could see Mandy Moore playing Nessa though. But as other posters have pointed out I'd be devestated if they got the links of Hillary Duff as Glinda and that red head girl Linda Lohan or something as Elphaba.
