Do all of you want it out of the novel because you like that storyline better for a movie or do you think it will ruin the musical for people if they mess it up? I'm still kind of undecided if I want musical or novel though. So many people in this thread have said that it could ruin theatre sales if they use the musical version but what about when sales drop just because it's getting old (not saying that people won't want to see it anymore) but their probably not going to make a movie version for 5-8 years. So, if they use the musical version after it's been a while could it possibly increase sales or is that not possible? Like I said before, I don't know which version I want them to use so I'm trying to decide.

while trends are trends, the film versions of 'Chicago'(bleh) and 'Rent' did not kill the current B'way shows.

Someone several pages back suggested the musical version as a feature film, and the book version as an HBO or PBS thing... interesting

Dont forget Phantom, that was beautiful. And to the original topic starter, Idina and Kristin said that if there ever was a movie (and there wasnt that they were aware of) that they would jump on the opportunity to do it and assumed that they would be the stars.
And Amen to that bleh to Chicago

I saw Kristin & Idina in the SanFran tryouts and on B'way and would LOVE to see them do the film - musical or book version. I loved Kristin on the West Wing and know that she could definitely pull it off if even if it were novel-based.

Yeah - Renee killed 'Chicago' for me - rancid.

I think, if I cold have the cast te way I wanted...

GALINDA - Megan Hilty
ELPHABA - Idina Menzel (or Shoshana Bean... maybe.)
FIYERO - Norbert Leo Butz
NESSAROSE - Michelle Federer
MORRIBLE - Carol Shelley
THE WIZARD - Joel Grey

That's really what I'd like. I dont have a preference on Boq. But pretty much the Original Cast... I have NOTHING against Cheno, if someone wanted her, by all means. But Megan Hilty is my favorite Galinda. She adds such an insanity to the character that was missing before her, that she really needed, I think. And she's adorable. <3

I believe that when they do the movie it needs to be based on the musical addaptation, and that they need to use the OBC.
ELPHABA: Idina Menzel
GLENDA: Kristin Chenoweth
(AS THE LEAD WITCHES OF OZ)

Then the rest of the OBC, in their orginal roles. Thats my opinion.

ok im kinda new to this and i haven't read every single post but...bill cosby doesn't sing! and that wouldn't be good...ive only seen the recent LA cast...

but i have the soundtrack with idina and kristen...Idina is INCREDIBLE but if kristen sings her part the way she does on the soundtrack then i think that Megan Hilty would be so much better...no affense to anyone who thinks otherwise but Megan just made the character come to life...she was so funny...from what ive seen of kristen on youtube...my opinion is Megan all the way....!

While it would nice to have the OBC if they finally make a movie, I don't think they will because they're, well, old.
However, I think Laura Bell Bundy would be a good Glinda. She's already done it on Broadway before.

There will probably be new, younger people to play the parts by the time they even consider to do a movie version.

ok...i don't know if this means anything but i went to the Universal Studios themepark last week and posters for Wicked were all over the place...inside the park. Now i don't know if thats because wicked has been playing in LA for the past month or so now...but i like to think that its because they are going to make the musical version wicked.
very hopefull!!!

I saw Eden (who I believe is the current Elphaba in LA) when she was on Broadway and I thought she was incredible. I love her voice and I think that appearance wise, she looks the most like Elphaba- well, the way she was described in the book.

Universal owns the rights to "Wicked". The posters & billboards have been up for at least a year or two.

what do you think they should do?

Wait, Laura Bell Bundy's already on Broadway. Hee Hee. Though, if they ever make the movie, she'll probably already be done with Legally Blonde [which was really good] she'd be able to play Glinda.

I will absolutely die if I don't see a move version of the book before I die.

Universal will no doubt make a movie version of the musical - the only question is when.

Universal tried to make a movie of the novel originally. Then Stephen Swartz came along and convinsed (bad spelling) them to turn it into a stage musical. Mark Platt agreed saying that the movie was not working - thus Wicked the Musical was born! If they do reattempt a movie, it will be one of the Musical because it is such a hit... not to mention the sucess of movie musicals lately. Hopefull it will be anounced before Mamma Mia! hits theaters (yes it is going to be a movie with Meryl Streep as Donna)

You know what?
That's a really good question.
I'm sad no one has talked about this yet. I'm not sure what I think. To be honest I'm not exactly thrilled when they have computer animation mixed in with people. Narnia was cute, but the computer graphics didn't capture Aslan the way they should have. I can't imagine Dillamond being done well with computer graphics. I was just fine with the way he was portrayed on stage. What do you all thing?

I agree. If it can look great on stage, then it sure could be fine for the theatre.

First of all, what you said makes no sense. "Stage" and "Theatre" are the same thing.

And, no, Dillamond did not look that good on stage. It was a man in a goat's costume for Christ's sake.

When making a movie, especially a big budget one, the makers are going to want to make everything as good as possible, because there are few limitations on screen. No one would ever, ever make Dillamond some guy in a cheap costume. They would use CGI because it has become a valuable resource and can acheive life-like images for a low cost.

In my opinion, even if the movie isn't NEARLY as good as the play, it's still someting to remember it from after wicked is long gone. I just hope the don't alter the story like they did with Hairspray.
