Ugh, see I knew It because I would have known about it, haha, you got me! but just to put my opinion in, I think...
A) Tom Cruise IS Glinda.
B) I would be happy if they just filmed it with the same exact script as it is now
like i wanted it to be with Rent.
C) Hilary Duff...OMG I SO TOTALLY WISH SHE WAS IN WICKED! ew.

I wouldnt want a movie on the musical.
I would rather want one rated R and to be exactly like the book. The musical would be too giddy.

Though the musical may be a watered down version of the book, it would prove to be a better movie. For one, everyone loves a musical, two, the Wicked musical fans would love it, three, the book is difficult to follow, even though it has a brilliant plot, and four, the musical holds peoples attention better. Although more modern movie musicals are proving to be duds at the box office (with the exception of Dreamgirls and Chicago), a movie based on the musical (if the script is the same, the same costumes are used, and the same set designer is used) would be more successful than one on the book. It just would be.

It's true... the musical version would draw a larger crowd. Still, I wish there was a better way to mix both... I wish I were a better scriptwriter. Then I could do it myself. But wouldn't it at least be nice if they could put a little more into Melena's character? She's so brief in the musical.

I'm lovin' the Tom Cruise idea.

Gah! I haven't been on here in so long. I was poking around this thread the other day during my nauseating, boring Cinema Verite class. I saw this and literally guffawed in the middle of the class. The professor called me out in front of everyone wondering if I'd share in the "comedy of his lecture."

I blubbered some sort of excuse about having tourettes.

I think that if we keep trying to mix the movie and the musical though, it will turn out a bit messed up. If we want to avoid a bad script or a distorted story, we should just let it be and keep the two seperate. You can make the movie and the book into two different movies.

Yeah i think this would be the better idea, leaving the musical as it is , rate it pg and keep it as a family thing, and also introduce those unfamiliar to wicked to the songs and the sort, the end result i think will be slightly cheesy but what family films aren't.

And then they should use the book to make a more dark and sinister version, do you think if they were to use the book would they keep the references of the sexual ecounters?

I wouldn't think that they'd go into as much detail as Fiyero seeing that she a had a penis or whatever it was.

Thanks MTO! I missed you guys too. I got so sidetracked with this Harry Potter stuff I've been doing. If any of you guys are HP fans you should totally check out these two sites:
http://hp2007.org/ http://community.livejournal.com/portus_2008/
(I'm working on our main site for this one. Haven't finished it yet but here's the LJ link, nonetheless and if anyone's on Facebook or MySpace our links are on that page too.)

This is why I haven't been around at all. But I'm back now and despite all the Harry Potter hullabaloo I am going to try to frequent these boards more often

Before it explodes out of me, I'll get it out of the way. I finally got to see Idina as Elphaba in London (front row, center even)and can now die a happy person.

Anyways, I'm glad to see that this thread is still alive and kicking (as it's one of my favorites). I've been reviewing it and there are definitely some interesting personalities roaming around here .

I am also due to hand out some Potty Points so everyone gets 3 Potty Points to start out the new year!

Edited because I have been away so long I forgot how to bold and italicize words.

And without further ado I will pose a question. As this has been repeated many times on this thread I would like to pose this topic in a different way. (This was inspired by MTO's Tom Cruise/G(a)linda comment.)

I know we all have our very different opinions on who we think would be the ideal cast for the movie.

What I want to know is what would be the most absurd/reckless cast ever.

I will start off with my own wicked cast.

Fiyero - played by Jaleel White a.k.a. Steve Urkel from the series Family Matters.
G(a)linda - played by Miss Piggy of the Muppet Show.
Boq - played by Wee Man of the MTV series, Jackass.
Nessarose - played by a brunette Nicole Richie.
The Wizard - played by Richard Kiel a.k.a. Jaws of the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me
Madame Morrible - played by former US Attorney General Janet Reno.

...and last but certainly not least...

Elphaba - played by Michael Jackson. Hey we all know he's got the singing chops and he's white enough to be a perfect canvas for the green makeup. (I was also going to say "somewhat androgynous" (kinda like Elphie in the book) but I won't touch that subject. )

Edited because I prematurely hit the Submit Now button.

How about Dick Cheney as Morrible? Also, I'd like to see Paris Hilton on that list because you can't get any more reckless than that. Like maybe as Glinda... "That's really um, HOT, don't you think, you know black is this year's pink"

That's funny because I originally had Paris Hilton as Glinda or Nessa.

"Silhouette Dorothy"? I don't think that would work in a multi-million dollar movie... that visual was made specifically for the stage. For that part I'd prefer an adaptation of the book, where at least we'd know Dorothy never meant to kill her.

I think a musical with parts of the book used for some exposition would work... not necessarily saying a 50/50 hybrid.

Are you serious about this cast list???? What makes you think half of these people would be good for the movie? Idina Menzel would be fine in the movie, even though she isn't huge, she definatley has some room to breath after RENT. People know who she is more. And also, Charlize? I love her but no...Kristen Chenoweth is also very well known. People know her from RV, Music Man, Bewitched...I think that doesn't matter. Nicole Blonsky, is Tracy in Hairspray the Movie, and this is her first film ever. So, here is my cast list.

Elphaba.........Idina Menzel/Catherine Zeta- Jones/Eden Espinosa

G(a)linda.......Kristen Chenoweth, Megan Mulally

Fiyero..........Taye Diggs, Hugh Jackman, Joey Macintire, Johnny Depp

Boq.............Steve Carell, Ewan McGregor

The Wizard......Ben Vereen, Anthony Hopkins

Morrible........Meryll Streep, Bete Middler, Barbra Streisand

Nessa...........Maggie Grace(LOST) Parker Posey.

Nessa, is a little iffy. I can't really think of anyone better. But this would be a great cast. I think

Please feel free to respond!

Welcome and don't take everything here so literally or you will likely end up as fish bait. And besides these are opinions and we should not belittle others opinions. Thank you for getting there before me LPhiBah. 'Cause I consider myself one of the sharks and this post to which you are referring is definitely quite tasty chum. And my New Year's Resolution this year is to be nicer to the chum.

Wow. How funny would Ms. Piggy be in Popular?

I just had an image in my mind of Michael Jackson doing a hair toss and his nose falling off.
Michael Jackson grabs where his nose should be.

Wicked the movie musical would be so cool - I live in Ireland you see so it is very expensive to ship out to London or New York when you want to see it. There are a lot of poorer people who would really like it as well. This is my dream cast.

Idina Menzel - Elphaba
Reese Witherspoon - Glinda
Angela Lansbury - Madame Morrible
Ewan McGregor - Fiyero
Natalie Portman - Nessa
Leonardo DeCaprio - Boq
and
Nigel Planner as the Wizard

Alternatively I'd like to see Helen Dallimore as Glinda.

How awesome would a Muppet production of Wicked could be! How about in stereoscopic 3-D so we get to wear those funky glasses. I like the idea of Miss Piggy being Glinda, but for some reason I can hear her voice yelling "It's MEEEEEEE!" as Elphie.
