I love Michelle Pfeiffer...but aside from her, it just seems they are packing this "film" with stars so people will see it and they will make money. Ugh, RENT was so much better, no matter what people say.

I completely agree. I do NOT like the cast for hairspray. If they hollywood-ize Wicked like they did this movie, I will cry.

Ok.

Please take the info in this post with a grain of salt. I cannot verify this information as much as I've searched.

A friend told me that her brother was reading a theater magazine (I think that it was called Vanity or something) and he read that Chenoweth and Menzel both had options in their contracts where they were guaranteed the parts in Wicked the movie if they chose to do it.

Now, as much as I would like to, I'm not sure I believe this. But my friend's brother is in the industry and he's gotten lots of this kind of information before (and it's correct 99% of the time).

IF this is true then it doesn't guarantee that cheno and menzel will be in the film. The studio can always opt to buy out their contracts. I think that would be beyond stupid though.

Still, I'm not taking this information with anything more than a grain of salt.

That actually sounds pretty reasonable. Since the way musical movies have been going, and because of the popularity stemming from Wicked, it wouldn't be odd that they had clauses in the contract concerning a movie. And, since Universal owns the rights, if they choose not to use them, it wouldn't be a problem b/c of the whole buying-out thing Elphie said.

So, this isn't really the MOST exciting news since it seems pretty standard....but still a movie is definitely NOT off the table.

That's sort of true. Everyone from the original cast (leads) have it in their contract that if the Producers want them to do the movie they are bound to it. However, it is up to the Producers.

I love how you capitalize "producers".

I'm so much happier now that I know for absolute sure that Reese will be Galinda. My life is fullfilled now that it is completely set in stone that there is no chance Reese was standing there by coincedence, and that she will definetly be Galinda...

There was a rumor that Hilary Duff was going to be Glinda too. I pretty much hurled when I heard that one. Greenery is not a big fan of Ms. Duff. to put it mildly.

Oh boy, even though I haven't seen Elphaba of Oz on this board for quite a while her sarcasim lives on.

Marc Platt did say that a movie is the next step, but he's not in any hurry. There are too busy making London, LA and Japan work. They might even take it out to other countries as well, so the movie is a long way off, yet there will be one.
There was a blurb about this in the Chicago Tribune a few weeks ago, when he announced the LA will have a sit down cast.

I think they should use most of the origional cast, especially Idina. I think she makes the best Elphaba. As for G(a)linda, (I agree) Kristin might be too old. When I saw Wicked, Kate Reinders did a really good job. I also agree that someone black should play Fiyero. Taye Diggs is a good choice- also Derrick Williams.

Oh my Oz. I am horrified at the thought of Reese playing Glinda. I'm sorry but I just don't want it to happen. I want someone who is theater-oriented to do it. I would love to see JLT or Kendra Kassebaum do it (and not just because I met Kendra last night!)

Don't get me wrong - I would LOVE to see Idina & Kristen do the film. I saw them in the SF workshops and once on B'way. The 2nd time I saw it on B'way was w/ Idina & Jennifer. Each time, Idina was more and more nuianced!
It was also coll to see 3 Wizards: Robert Morse in SF, and Joel Grey & George Hearn on B'way.

I don't really care who plays most of the other roles. I would either like to see Kristin because she is amazing or Kendra as Galinda because they are both really funny and when I've heard and/or seen the other Galinda's they don't have as much ditziness in their voices. Those two would be my top two choices.

And they can make people look a lot younger than they reall are in movies. I'll show you, I hope this works.

This is Anthony Rapp, who played Mark in the OBC and movie of RENT. Here he is in the movie:

And here he is at the same time of the movie while not filming:

See, any actor or actress can be made to appear younger with technology. Since we are talking about different stars, what if Alison Mulchaka (sp?) was to play Galinda. She is young enough, but not old enough for the second act Glinda, however I think she could pull it off quite nicely if she wanted to.

Interesting...it's definitely listed there. Wonder if this is a sort of confirmation of it (eventually) being made...

Let's face it, it will definately be made. It's too much of a money maker for people not to make and plus, people who don't like theater will want to see it and the people who liked the stage version will want to see what it's like and will probably want it so that they can watch it whenever.

I'd really really like them to make a movie, but they should definitely use the OBC or most of it.. Idina should definitely play Elphaba and if not Kristin for G(a)linda, I think Kendra or Kate should. Kate definitely has the energy, hyper-ness, ditziness, and spaz to play her. Lol--most of those probably aren't words. If they choose big hollywood people to play in the movie- I would cry as other people had said. Rent was made into a movie with people from the cast and I think it turned out good. So.. OBC and other people currently playing in Wicked all the way!

Sorry about my quadruple posting, something went wrong in my internet Anyways, the only problem with RENT is that it didn't attract a very big crowd, but then again, the commercial never really said what it was about, so yeah What about Megan Hilty, I watched Shoshana Bean Backstage or whatever and Megan seems really funny. She almost IS Galinda. But I really do think Kendra, Kristin, or Megan would be the best choices.

Ew, Leonardo Dicaprio. We're trying to get somebody that people find attractive, kind of arrogant, and Leo might be attrractive, or he used to be, he's been losing it, but he can't really pull of the cocky thing. I think it's hard for him to even pull off the manly thing, if you've ever seen Romeo and Juliet, the new one, you would know :-S But, the rest of the cast seems good. I only know Richard Gere, but he could make a good Wizard, I think.
