In the Chicago Tribune,(today, 7/17/06) I think under the Metro or Business section a very small article talked about Wicked coming to LA for a sit down cast. Marc Platt said that yes they will do a movie, but they aren't in any rush. Wicked still has a lot of audiences to grab on stage. NY, Chicago and the tour are still going strong, so they won't be movie casting any time soon.

Are you people crazy?? What is the matter with you..? Have any of you even seen Wicked. It's like disrespectful to even think about Reese Witherspoon playing Glinda. It should be Original Cast all the way..and if not original cast..it should be people who actually have performed Wicked. If there is a movie and freaking Mariah Carey is playing Elphaba I for one am not going to see it.

I must confess that my primary reason for posting is just to drag this thread back near the top.

That said, I do have another motive.

What does everyone think about M. Knight Shyamalan being involved in "Wicked the movie." (I really hope they don't called it Wicked: The Movie. Luckily, i really don't think they will). I bring this up because I recently saw Lady in the Water.

As for me, my opinion on the matter is undecided (just as it is on Lady in the Water). I lean towards a negative opinion. I am very weary about what he would do with material that is not his own. I would be afraid that in trying to make Wicked a reflection of his artwork, he would take it too far away from the spirit of the book/musical (whatever it becomes based on). And following his current trend of starring in his movies, I would be horrified if he cast himself in the movie, say as Fiyero.

I would never have thought that he would have done that until I saw Lady in the Water which he practically starred in.

Any thoughts?

Shyamalan is so over-rated, it is sad. He hasn't done anything really creative since
"The Sixth Sense" & I figured out the "twist" before the movie was half over. He would turn "Wicked" into his own little ego trip. No thanks. I am not in favor of Wicked being anymore "Hollywood-ized" than it already has been.

I really think Tim Burton would do a good job, whatever it's based on (Musical or Book).

M. Night Shyamalan would be a horrible director. He knows nothing, he merely makes up his own Mythology, and he thinks he's a brilliant director when in reality he's a one-hit-wonder.

Tim Burton is absolutely my favorite director, but I'm not sure he would do justice to Wicked. He is very dark and original, but I fear he will over dramatize Wicked and make it more depressing than it really is. He would do a good job crafting Elphaba (brilliant, even) but I don't think he can handle her polar opposite (in some respects): Galinda. I think he is just too low key to create something as massive as Wicked.

James Cameron might be a good candidate. I say this because I am in love with Titanic, and Wicked should be a movie made on the same scale.

All though, I still think that I would be the best director for the Movie !

Isn't he more of a two-hit wonder? Signs and Sixth Sense.

Has James Cameron even done anything recently? I can't stand Titanic, another hugely over-rated director & the true story of the Titanic is so much better. His version is full of stereoptypes taken from every "rich girl meets poor boy" story ever written. Another no thanks from me.

oH, MY GOD!!! Sorry, Booklady, but I must disagree. I mean, not only is it one of my favorite movies, but it is the highest grossing film to date, winner of 11 Academy Awards and the Top-grossing film to date. If you don't like it, that's entirely your opinion (And I do think that they got a little too caught up in the special effects, it would have been better if they stuck more with the love-story).

Sorry for ranting, I know you weren't really bashing the film, but it seriously is one of the greatest movies of all time.

Generally speaking, yes we are crazy... thanks for noticing! Oh and thanks very much for all that originality. I don't think anyone on these boards have ever thought of the original cast being in the movie. Wow... Pure casting genius that is. I am taken back! I would actually like to applaud you!

No, Vonne0306, I've never seen Wicked. I would be surprised if *anyone* on these boards has seen Wicked. I mean, who would want to watch that for two and a half hours? It's horrid. And to talk about it with other people! Unspeakable!

My lord, I think i will ruin my movie and the Wicked name and cast Mariah Carey just to spite you!

Titanic was good as fiction, unfortunately, the true story of the ship & the people who perished got lost in Cameron's make believe fantasy. The people in steerage were not happy, dancing, singing immigrants. The movie was a stereoptypical, copy of nearly every "rich girl/poor boy" story ever written. The people who lived & died on the Titanic deserved better, as far as I am concerned. Just because something sells a lot of tickets doesn't make it good. So-called tv reality shows like American Idol, Survivor & the rest are carefully edited pieces of tripe that get huge ratings & make tons of money for their advertisers. Professional sporting events are another example. TV & movies are just another example of the dumbing down of society.

Where is Ivan? Anyway, I don't mind that hollywood ending. Look a lot can change when they do make it for the big screen, let's just prepair for the worse and hope for the best. My prediction is the movie will be out or in porduction by 2010. Sadly, the OBC will be too old.

I don't think it will be out that soon.....I'll still be in college, so I won't be able to direct it!

But, if somehow I don't direct it, I still think 2010 is too soon. The show itself is getting a lot of exposure, it's popping up all over the world. Generally, they would let the show decrease in success b4 they make a movie, so as to not peak to soon.

I would say about 2017, but I can be wrong
