All right, I'm new at this... be nice Haha. Anyway, I've heard rumors from someone who works at Universal about the movie..... I don't know if any of it has any truth. All I heard is that Reese Witherspoon would be Galinda and Anne Hathaway as Elphaba. That part killed me, as I have trouble seeing Hathaway as anything but Princess Mia or Ella.....

I'd die to see the original cast in the movie, but it's true that they are aging. What about Patrick Wilson (Raoul) as Fyero? Any takers?

I couldn't possibly read every post here, so I apologize if I repeat stuff. But I read something about maybe the movie NOT being a musical? While it's true that the book came first, the musical would be much better on screen than the book. They are two different stories in a way, and the book is better as a book, because so much of what happens is seen in people's thoughts, not actions. Plus, there is too much in the book for today's general audience to take in in one sitting. I loved the book, but as an aspiring screenwriter, I can see that the musical would be a much better choice.

Alright, sorry for writing a novel here.....

Don't worry, you should see some of Polychrome's posts if you want novels!

Anyway, I don't think those rumours are true, anything you heard is probably just that universal has the rights to the picture. Don't worry, it will be years b4 they make a movie.

Jessica Simpson? You must not have much respect for the role of Glinda. There is no way she could pull that off vocally.

Oh my God, nooooooooooo Anne Hathaway ehhh. No i'm totally bias I have to have Idina and Kristin in it. Use other young unknowns for the college years, but the girls have to play the older Elphie and Glinda!

Yeah, Anne Hathaway is way too much the "cheesy princess" in my mind still. She sang all right in Ella Enchanted but she's going to have to do a lot better than that to compete with Idina.

The only problem with that is that many of the well known songs are in the college years. TWAI, Popular, INTG, DTL, DG, etc.
If they only played the girls in Act 2, I think they would be short changed. How could Idina play the role and not do DG?

I really don't like SJP. But that's just me. I have never heard her sing anyway.

Actually Jessica Simpson has a really good voice. Regardless of whether or not you like her type of music, she probably could pull off the singing.

Know who else has a really good voice? Christina Agulaira. She can really sing.

I don't really want her in the movie, but just throwing that out there.

"Changed", when ending a sentence, one period will do. And if you feel you need to use elipises, three will suffice. Thanks.

There's rules about these things? *blushes* Where?

I hope you don't mind my four elipses, I use four because I'm also a Star Wars nerd and they use four at the end of every paragraph in the opening thing.

Anyway.... I would see the movie no matter what, but I'd be severely disappointed, is all.

I do hope a movie comes out though, as I'll never be able to see the play at this rate. Tickets were sold out here a couple years in advance.

Four isn't bad. It's using six and seven and eight that gets annoying. And you actually use periods and other punctuation marks. What Changed was doing was using six elipses at the end of every sentence, instead of using a period and starting a new sentence. No worries about you though.

Voice overs!! Oh and with the SJP thing she's a little on the over the hill side of things too. I mean if your going to have her you may as well get Kristin or Idina! Besides did you guys see the new X men they took like 20 yrs off Ian McKellen....bring on the movie magic!!

Whoopsie. Seems as though we've missed one though!

Welcome Nessarose Throppe! We have a few basic rules and regs we like to follow, and some advice that help keep this place just peachy.

1) No excessive swearing.
2)We don't talk about religion in general. You can talk about the religion in Wicked, but not your own or anyone else's
3) We are not big fans of chatspeak. be warned, you will be mocked constantly should you try and use it.
4) Only one exclamation point, question mark, and other punctuators are needed. Using "?!?!??!" won't get answers faster, and using "!" gets your point across just as easily as "!!!!"
5) If you have an idea for a new thread, please refer back 3 or 4 pages to make sure there isn't one already on the boards recently. We love when old threads are dragged back up to the top, but we don't like wasting space with new ones if it's already here.
6) We are very large users of sarcasm. Don't take it personally, it's just a pasttime. Some like to use it more than others *coughElphabaofOzcough*, but trust that those people don't hate you. In fact, we highly encourage you throwing it back in our faces.
7) Please try to use proper grammar, spelling and capitalization.
8) (just added after realizing it was never on here) We don't do people's homework for them. If you have a school assignment related to Wicked, come here and share your ideas, and we will gladly share ours. But don't expect us to give you all the answers.

And: the buttons.

In a little bar above everyone's posts are little icons.

1) A little smiley face with a "?": This is the user's profile. It shows how many posts they have, and other stuff.
2)A flying letter: This let's you e-mail the user.
3) A pencil and paper: Click this to edit your posts if you made a mistake, or want to add something in. People like that better than you making a whole new post.
4)A paper with a red arrow: This is the quote button. If you click it, you, um...quote said post in your reply.

look, no offense to anyone who thinks this is a good idea, but i think that having two different people for act 1 and act 2 is NOT a good idea. i mean there voices would sound totally different. and i'm totally for having as much of the original cast as possible!

Thanks for the rule list! Yeah, I'm annoyed by a lot of bad spelling and grammar as well.

I agree that the same actresses should play Elphie and Galinda in both acts. They do just fine in the play, using makeup, clothing styles, and acting ability to show the change, so in a movie it shouldn't be a problem at all.

I really cannot see Wicked as becoming a movie, and as for Idina and Kristin not being good/famous enough to play the roles, I *SCOFF* *SCOFF* *SCOFF*, no sir... or madame!
I think Hollywood actors would ruin the concept of the story and stuff like that, and I always like to see new faces in movies. But i sincerely hope that Wicked will stay a musical and a book and thats it.

Unfortunately, while Idina & Kristin are good enough to play the roles in a movie (which I hope never happens) they aren't famous enough. Rent, the movie is a perfect example of that. They used most of the original cast & didn't do very well at the box office & got no awards nominations. Chicago used big name stars, did great at the box office & was nominated for several awards. It is all about who will sell the most tickets, Catherine Zeta Jones or Bebe Nieuwirth? The producers used big name stars & still tanked at the box office. Movie musicals are not doing well at the box office & Hollywood is all about the ticket sales.

Funny, I would actually prefer, that the Movie be fashioned after the Book, instead of the play. It's meant for adults after-all. Just take out teh fully fledged Sex scenes.

Yeah I agree that they (movie makers, bad directers etc) would probably Massacre the matirial so I would be against it but it's a little hard when they won't bring the musical to Australia, at least I know I could get the movie.

As for Rent, no one knew about it here, it was on limited relese. I live in Newcastle the largest city in NSW after Sydney and I had to travel two hours to see it! That was in November and we arn't getting the DVD untill Aug aparently.. we are getting compleatly ripped! I'm hoping it gains momentum when it hits the shelves!

Ok, well I guess I will have to use less periods and such and check my spelling seeing that it bothers all of you so much. And another thing stop calling me a "she" I am a boy, that is bad thing about these boards you don't know if the person is a boy or girl. So please refer to me as "changed" or he. Thanks

NOW BACK TO THE TOPIC....
I think that they should use the OBC, but they do bring up a go point about RENT, so on the other hand they can use idina and kristin in the lead parts and more "famous" actors for the supporting roles {morrible, wizard, etc.} For example they did that for the new Superman movie {I know that it is not a musical or anything but it is a good example.} and who knows if they use the OBC or unknown actors they could blow up and be big stars. Phantom's movie had all unknown and it did very good. So many things to think about IF they start planning a movie.

Also, I don't know about other people, but I knew and recognized Phantom songs growing up, but not Rent. And Rent has a lot of things that are controversial so maybe that's part of the reason that not as many people would have seen that one. But yeah, I'm really scared about what Hollywood would do to Wicked if they made it a movie. They'd probably cut songs, shorten songs, change up the script, and ruin it for me. But I'd still see it since I'll never get a chance to see the show.

personally i hope they make a movie, but i really think they should use the OBC. even though they aren't famous. and i'd like to point out that a lot of famous musicals have been made with the OBC and maybe haven't made as much money as they would hope, but the true fans stuck with them and supported it. i'd also like to point out that the only famous person in the sound of music was Julie Andrews, who was not yet at the peak of her career when that movie was made. and she turned out great.

True fans will stick with a movie, Rent is a case in point. Unfortunately, Hollywood doesn't care about the relatively small groups of true fans. Hollywood cares about ticket sales & profit, that is the bottom line. I know a lot of people who were die hard Rent fans when they were younger, made special trips to see the play in NY & were over it by the time the movie came out & passed on the movie. Christopher Plummer who played Captain Von Trapp was actually quite well known,The Sound of Music was made during a very different time & geared to a family audience. People don't go to the movies like they used to when I was a young girl. I remember seeing Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music & so many other movies at the theatre with my family. VCR's & now DVDs have changed the way people look at movies & not necessarily for the better. People have gotten so used to seeing movies in their homes & being able to talk through the movie that when they actually GO to a theatre, they use the same bad manners. I think it possible that Wicked could end up the same way that Rent did & as much as I enjoyed the play, it really doesn't have a new or unique message.

I know! How rude are some people, I can't go to the movies with my aunt she sits there and talks through the whole thing and it's not like she whispers, full on out on the street vocals, it's so wrong. Although saying that I hate when people are so uptight they shoosh you when you laugh, it's like dude go see a drama!
