Hey,

Has anyone actually thought of Alicia Keys for Elphaba? She has an amazing voice, not quite sure on the range, but she could look the part.

Greetings. Not sure if this link has been posted already or debunked, but did some investigating as I think it would make a great movie too - if you do a search on the producer of the musical - Marc Platt, the Broadway production was backed by Universal Studios, so check this out at: http://www.hollywood.com/movies/fulldetail/id/371871 and make your own conclusions, but appears to be in development at least

Welcome, Kage and AnteM. Note that no one will take you seriously if you post on this thread. They will make fun of anything you say. *grins*

If you look a little bit you can find the "rules." Or OTM might post them for you.

ETA: The movie was going to happen - Demi Moore had the rights to it - but it didn't go anywhere and SS brought up the musical idea, which is obviously making them plenty of money at the moment. *grins*

That development deal is actually very old news. Demi Moore's company HAD the rights several years ago, but never did much with it. Universal ended up with the rights in 1996. Marc Platt wasn't happy with the script he was originally presented. It was very true to the novel & Platt wanted more of the Elphaba/Glinda friendship. Winnie Holtzman became interested, as did Stephen Schwartz. Schwartz & Holtzman went to Platt with the idea that it should be a musical & the rest is theatre history. I do love The Grimmerie.

I think it will be a long time before Wicked is made into any kind of movie. The productions are doing so well & the last few movie musicals have not done well at the box office. Why mess up a good thing?

Elphaba- even though Idina is the best Elphie there is or was, she will be too old when the moovie comes out, so I say: Jennifer Garner (Elektra), Demi Moore (does she sing?)

G(a)linda- Alicia Silverstone, Heather Graham?

Fiyero- Norbrt Leo Butz(original Fiyero), Ewan McGreggor(Moulin Rouge-forget who he played-forgot name), Hugh Jackman anyone?

Morrible- Carole Shelley(Aunt Clara-Bewitched,original Morrible.*Kristin also played in Bewitched, didnt she?), Bette Middler(Winnifred-Hocus Pocus)

Wizard-Patrick Stewart(Charles Xavier- x-men),Michael Caine (Uncle Garth- secondhand lions, Ian McKellen (Eric Lenshher/Magneto- x-men)

Nessa- Kate Winslet, Helena Bonham Carter(Emily-Corpse Bride, Lady Tottington-Wallace and Gromit:Curse of WareRabbit)

Boq- It doesnt really matter that much, but I would have to say Elijah Wood

Demi Moore is older then Idina Menzel.
Hugh Jackman is older then Norbrt Leo Butz.
Alicia Silverstone? Not when you have Reese Witherspoon.

None of the people who played the main characters are so old that they couldn't revive their roles in a couple years, guess it depends how long the show stays on broadway. I can't see how you could use anyone but the originals, the people who are going to see it in theaters probably know the show already and will want to see the originals on screen. And I think most audiences would rather see a movie musical with great voices rather than famous stars (Rent). I think Chicago could have been better if they had used professional singers. Also, last thing, a lot of people who don't know a lot musicals will recognize Idina Menzel from Rent anyway so she is a shoe in for the part.

Personally in a way I would love a Wicked movie because I will never have the fourtune of seeing Wicked on stage because the theater here is to small and my mom wouldn't take me to a touring city because she is afraid of the flying monkeys. Wow that was off topic but a movie would probably be the only way I could see the show.

On the other hand I hear Wicked has things you couldn't really get on stage like The Time Dragon and supposedly flying mokeys. She also flies flying on stage is impressive movies, not so much. They kind of did that for Phantom or so I hear a chandelier fell. How could you experience that in a movie?

( Wow this sounds alot like the drama final paper I wrote today on theater versus film.)

I think Ewan MacGregor should be the voice of Dorothy

No, really...I'd love it if they just...you know...filmed the show :\ I don't even know what to say on the topic, anymore. I feel like a movie is bound to come, and it's bound to happen years from now.

I have to say I definitely respect your opinion. But as far as comparing the movie musicals of RENT and Chicago... Well, RENT didn't do well at the box offices over all... Wasn't nominated for any awards, nothing, and it was broadway stars. On the other hand, Chicago was laced with famous faces, and was given some of the best reviews. It also was nominated for many awards, and, lo and behold took a few home. I think people were more impressed to see Hollywood actors taking the "stage" so to speak and making it successful. The biggest criticisms I heard about RENT the movie was that the actors were too old to make their characters believable anymore (save Tracie and Rosario, and maybe even Taye). Now, don't get me wrong, I love the movie, but I do have to agree that none of the characters look their age. So regardless of the fact that they're the original cast and they're fantastic singers, they just didn't make the movie successful. (Also blame it on Columbus.)

I guess it all depends on whether or not they want to make the film for the average moviegoer or for those who have always liked the musical. Also, I really didn';t think that anyone in Chicago was that amazing that they deserved Oscar nominations, I liked Queen Latifah but still she wasn't that amazing

Aha. And therein lies the crux. For a movie to be really successful, and I mean really really successful, worth the millions of dollars they put into it, it would have to appeal to both the avid die-hard musical fans and the general public.

Well, in my opinion anyway, that's what makes a movie successful. Hm. That's a good topic starter.

do they HAVE to sing? can it not be a movie without the singing? so i'm making my list of actors and not considering the singing. some of the people others chose had some infulence on my choices.

Elphaba- Cate Blachett or Nicole Kidman (they both have good faces for it.)

Galinda- i still like Megan Mullally for this!but i wonder if Michelle Williams could pull it off.

Boq- Sean Astin!

Fiyero- Don Cheadle (he would be able to portay the right emotions properly)

Nessa- Natalie Portman

Morrible- I like Bette Midler for this one, reminds me of her in Hokus Pokus

Wizard- Ian McKellen (anyone see Apt Pupil?)

what about the other characters??
Tibbet and Crope: Jack Black and Adrian Brody (i dont know why!)

Melena: ?

Frex: ?

I like all of your suggeestions! They are really good!

Oh hey!

Welcome! We have a few basic rules and regs we like to follow, and some advice that help keep this place just peachy.

1) No excessive swearing.
2)We don't talk about religion in general. You can talk about the religion in Wicked, but not your own or anyone else's
3) We are not big fans of chatspeak. be warned, you will be mocked constantly should you try and use it.
4) Only one exclamation point, question mark, and other punctuators are needed. Using "?!?!??!" won't get answers faster, and using "!" gets your point across just as easily as "!!!!"
5) If you have an idea for a new thread, please refer back 3 or 4 pages to make sure there isn't one already on the boards recently. We love when old threads are dragged back up to the top, but we don't like wasting space with new ones if it's already here.
6) We are very large users of sarcasm. Don't take it personally, it's just a pasttime. Some like to use it more than others *coughElphabaofOzcough*, but trust that those people don't hate you. In fact, we highly encourage you throwing it back in our faces.
7) (updated) Please try to use proper grammar, spelling and capitalization.

And: the buttons.

In a little bar above everyone's posts are little icons.

1) A little smiley face with a "?": This is the user's profile. It shows how many posts they have, and other stuff.
2)A flying letter: This let's you e-mail the user.
3) A pencil and paper: Click this to edit your posts if you made a mistake, or want to add something in. People like that better than you making a whole new post.
4)A paper with a red arrow: This is the quote button. If you click it, you, um...quote said post in your reply.

Good idea. The best way to make a good impression on a new board is to call one of our most established members insane. Now we like you.

A Wicked with no Defying Gravity would the *book.* You know, that little thing that's sold over a million copies that the musical was BASED on? Yeah, that book.

I agree, if they make a movie I want it to not be singing. It just needs to be portrayed after the book.. *screenplay starts to form in my head*

I don't know...I would love a movie based on the book, but the musical has definite potential, since it's relatable. I don't want to brag, but I'm studying to be a filmmaker, and I already wrote a screenplay integrating the musical and book ( I think I've mentioned this before). Anyway, i think that is the best bet, seeing as it can appease everyone.

Also, I like Bette Midler as Morrible, but I think Dame Maggie Smith may be better (if she can sing).

Also, Grimmerie, why do you post so many separate threads? You can make your life a lot easier if you just press the pencil icon and add your thoughts in the one post.

New Memeber? I've been here since Novemeber !

Anyway, I think I already posted a dream cast, but I did just have a thought.

To begin with, does anyone watch Degrassi? I absolutely LOVE that show, and I thought one of the actresses on that could be a potential Elphaba. Her name is Melissa McIntyre, and she looks like Elphaba, can sing really well, and is still young, so when I--ahem--I mean *someone* makes the movie years from now (seeing as the muscial is still fairly new) she maybe the perfect age.

Of course, I lick the ground Idina Menzel Walks on, so she would be my definite 1st choice!

I don't know if anything like this has been posted before(I'm new and I didn't particularly want to sift through 14 pages)but here goes.
I think that if they ever made a movie it would work better if the actors were'nt all that well known. That's what they went for with the original cast for the musical and it worked really well. That's also what they did with the film version of Phantom Of The Opera. If you have loads of well known actors in it you can never be sure wether it was liked more for who was in it than the story itself

phantom is a remake though very few people realize this. Right after the show went on broadway in the eighties they made a musical version and a non-musical version. The non-musical version was more popular so they stopped selling the musical version. However I have it and it's very good, the audio is kind of poor because it's old but hey, what can ya do?

i can.i will. and watch me, I too would LOVE to see the movie with the original broadway cast(apart from my list above), but like you said, it won't come ou for a while. Wicked has been on Broadway for about two and a half years. If they make the movie in, let's say, seven and a half years, Idina Menzel would be about 42 and Kristin would be about 44. They will be too old to play college aged girls.

"There has been much rumor and speculation...inuendo...outuendo. According to the Time Dragon Clock...WICKED IS GOING TO BE A MOVIE!!!"

Ok, so aside from that little Wicked incerpt, I have created a cast who would be perfect to play the parts in Wicked the movie:

Elphaba-Hello? Idina Menzel, she's a Hollywood name now thanks to RENT
Glinda-Kristin Chenoweth, if not her Jessica Simpson has the cute, bubbly personality of Glinda
Fiyero-The guy who played Raoul in Phantom of the Opera or Ewan McGreggor
The Wizard-Joel Grey is one that everyone knows & the only suitable person for this part
Morrible-Julie Andrews
Nessarose-Emmy Rossum(Christine in Phantom of the Opera) or Mandy Moore
Boq-really anyone can play him, he's an easy part

And I am always willing to play Glinda if need be. I've been told by talent agents that I have the perfect personality, voice & acting ability to play her, but unfortunately, I am to young to play her just yet. But when I turn 20, broadway better watch out!
