Though many of the posts are useless, the fact that the film isn't on the books yet doesn't make the topic useless.
This thread was meant to foster speculation, imagination, and its done that. There's a reason people are still posting messages (which are on topic).
There's probably also a reason you're still coming back to read...

If you are referring to your screenplay, I am guessing that it isn't something commissioned by Universal Studios. If it were, you wouldn't have been asking us how to get in touch with GM. I would imagine that IF Universal has someone writing a script, GM would be involved.

Okay, i'm here to set the record straight!!! There is in fact a release of the movie "Wicked" coming out in 2010, sources say, Alanis Morissette will be playing Elphaba, she's my favorite singer, so i'm very excited, and Renee Zeilwegger (from Chicago) will be playing Glinda

SO EXCITED!!!

I sincerely hope that this is not right. It would be selling out the musical completely to have these two in the main roles. I'm a big fan of both but I would much rather have Idina and Kristin do it.

The only problem with them doing it would be their age in my eyes. ((Not because of there unknown-ness... they have both been featured in movie now and I doubt whoever will make the movie will cut them out b/c they are not HUGE names))

And if they are going to cut them out because of their age I don't think they would go for two people of nearly the same age.

Yay for the thought of a Wicked Movie though. ...one day...

It almost seems like it would be a disappointment to put big names in the roles... nobody could ever do it as well as Idina and Kristin. It would be amazing if it could be those two. *sigh* One can dream.

I'd say stick with OBC mostly, if possible - and don't worry about age. Twenty years ago, a twenty-three-year-old Lea Thompson was made to look forty-seven on screen. With all the post-production capability we have today, I'm sure they can be made to look much younger than their age. The idea of Maggie Smith as Morrible has something to it, judging from her performances as McGonagall, but I'm surprised fewer people have suggested this idea: Andy Serkis as Dillamond. If ya know what I mean. May as well take advantage of that film medium.

ok you guys are crazy with these hollywood stars playing these parts. and Bandy are you serious. She was horrible as cinderella. She is only good with pop music. OH MY GOD Nicole Kidman? no way. I mean give me a break. I'm sorry she did a good job for not a singer in MR but come on. She can only carry a tune. They should be using people that actually can sing AND act. Not only one and the other. So they should prolly go with the originally cast.

OF COURSE they SHOULD use the origional cast. But why would they? 'Rent' tried it and did not do spectacular things at the box office. NO GOLDEN GLOBE or OSCAR NOMINATIONS.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they did it. I have the DVD. But why would Hollywood do that again? Why would they gamble on talented performers when they can make millions off of Renee Z. falling off her shoes, going ever so slightly flat whenever she has to hold a note more than 2 beats, and looking like a 14-old boy in sequins? So what if the editor can't show more than 10 seconds of her dancing at a time before cutting to a different view?

We'd all love to see WICKED w/Idina & Kristin. But unless we pull our pennies together, it's not likely going to get made that way.

Well, that isn't ONLY because it was mostly the original cast. The main audience for movies are teens. And simply put, the majority of teens are not into musicals. There are the exceptions on this board, and on other boards and such, but they will be losing either way.

Lets use math. (Hate me don't you?)

50% girls - 25% want to see a musical, 25% don't
50% boys - 10% want to see a musical, 40% don't

Therefore 35% of teens want to see a musical.

Not that many.

**Please note that all of these numbers are made up by me, and my expiriences and are just here to make a point.

Rent was going to be a tough sell to a general movie audience. For those who never saw the show, it's pretty rough. Aids, homosexuals, drag queens, drugs along with songs don't usually get people to the cinema. Rent also has A LOT of songs. They cut out a few for the movie and replaced it with talking, but to the average non-musical fan, it would seem as if they never stopped singing.
Chicago did very well but they actually cut out quite a few songs from the original show.
I still think there is hope for Wicked. We need a strong script, strong cast and a director with vision. Then it may surprise us all.

My vote is still for something similar to the DVD of Cats.

OBC with movie-like camera angles and effects on a broadway stage.

I think right now that would be the only way to do a movie version of the show justice.

Chicago did well because they went with established movie stars. If Universal makes a movie of Wicked, they will go with established stars, it is just common sense. The Producers pretty much tanked at the box office & that was with established stars. I would imagine that there is little to no chance that a movie will have the OBC, the box office numbers are what ultimately will make the decision. They wanted a "Name" for Broadway, so Idina was in, Stephanie was out. They will want a "Name" for the movies & Idina doesn't have it.

Was Indina Menzel really that popular? I know she had been in a Tony award winning musical back in 1996. Yet, I still didn't see her as broadway star quality before she landed Wicked. She had to audition, and the word was that the producers/director wanted someone who already been in a broadway show, not necessarily Idina. Actually, Ana Gasteyer was called back for a second audition for the role. But she found out she was pregnant and was still under contract with SNL. This article was featured in a May 2005 Where magazine. It's a magazine that talks about things to do in Chicago.

Don't hurt me, Idina's awesome, I'm just saying Idina wasn't the obvious choice until after all the auditions were done. I don't think she would have to audition for anything right now.

Sorry, it is, these sources are also reliable, just so u noe. Everybody is saying so. Renee Zeilweggar, isn't that old. And i'm very upset she's playing Glinda, but it's tru. I think ALanis Morissette will do a good job as Elphaba. I wish Ewan Mcgregor would play Fyero, but it may only be a thing of imagination. Anyway, i'm pretty sure those are the peoplw ho will be playing people in wicked. By the way, i'd also rather have Idina and Kristen do it, and it's not selling out the musical. It makes it somewhat better in a way. But I agree with u totally

that "information" is completely untrue and unreliable. there are currently no real serious talks for the movie. unless you are directly involved with universal and currently in the process of hiring renee zellweger, nobody's going to take you seriously and you shouldn't take these "sources" seriously.

also, welcome to the boards, i'm not sure how long you've been here, but some tips:

we like good spelling, grammar, and limited (and, if possible, zero) chatspeak. it makes the boards cleaner and more pleasant, and it doesn't hurt that much to add an extra "e" on true, spell "know" with a k and a w, etc. thanks. (and normally we like capitalization, too, but my shift key is temporarily broken and i'm too lazy to use caps lock all the time, so i get a break.)

You need to make these rumors somewhat realistic. You should have said Reese Witherspoon for Glinda. You might have had more believers.

If the sources are so reliable, why are you the only that has heard of them? A direct link or something like that might be more believable. There is nothing on the Universal site, nothing on the star sites that says this is happening. I still put it in the wishful thinking category. As much as I like Alanis Morisette, she is not exactly a Hollwood star of the caliber of Renee Zellwegger.

Just a tip. A really good way to find out if a "movie rumor" is true or not. Go to http://www.imdb.com (internet movie database) and look. It's a professional website that gets their information directly from the studio's.

You can search for movies/actors/actresses/directors/writers/or producers, and it will show you all upcoming, current, and past movies they've been apart of. All the way from "signed on"...to "pre-production"...to "post-production"...to "completed".

So far there has been NO evidence that any Wicked movie musical is being made. I'm sorry =/.

Hmmm.... the dream cast for "Wicked" the musical. I think they might do it sooner than any of us know. Musicals seem to be making something of a comeback and getting a bit more respect.

Who would I want? Barring any of the original cast playing the parts....
Elphaba - Anne Hathaway (she sang in Ella Enchanted and did nicely) or Emmy Rossum (Christine in the "Phantom of the Opera" movie)
Glinda - Reese Witherspoon (nice choice I saw on other's lists here. She sang in "Vanity Fair" and "Walk the Line" the former she proves she's definitely soprano and could handle the part)
Fiyero - Christian Bale (he sang in "Newsies" if anyone remembers him from those days. he's my personal fave actor of all time and is just plain sexy, so I can't help naming him.)
Nessa -
The Wizard - I give you John Travolta as a joke, however he is getting old enough, and he's had undeniable singing experience. My bigger preferences, however, would be Mandy Patenkin (Che in Evita's broadway cast originally and Inigo Montoya in "Princess Bride" for those who would know that one better. he's had TONS of singing experience) or possibly George Clooney.
Madame Morrible - how about Judi Dench, for someone who possibly hasn't been named yet on the lists here?

Why make a movie? The play is good! Well, I guess it's good for people who can't afford to go to the play. I think they should use the original broadway cast. Indina, Kristin, and the rest of the cast. Even the same costumes! That would be something. Well they made RENT into a movie and it turned out good. Let's hope Wicked does!

But Rent barely made back production costs, much less turn a major profit & get nominated for awards. Chicago went with movie stars instead of the OBC (who are majorly talented, but not big enough names to get a lot of people into a movie theatre), made a ton of money & was nominated for several major awards & won a few. The Producrs has not done well at all, it has pretty much tanked at the box office, despite having Matthew Broderick, Nathan Lane & Uma Thurman. IF a movie of Wicked is made, I honestly think they will go with movie stars, for the name recognition alone. Having said that, the box office numbers for Rent & The Producers could seriously hurt any future plans for a movie version of Wicked. The bottom line in Hollywood is dollars & awards. The IMDB has nothing on any kind of plans for Wicked, the Movie & it is a more reliable source than most.

I serious think it depends on the plot. Chicago had a great plot with big names. Rent, wasn't goung to appeal to everyone. The subject matter is still too risky, even in the year 2006. Wicked has great potential, if they want it to happen, I think they'll be successful. However there has to be at least one or two big names from Hollywood. I won't say for which parts, because I don't know.

there is no way alanis morisette will be elphaba. that is not only entirely unrealistic, but just possibly a dream of yours. i would not be sure of a wicked movie any time soon, not even 2010, because it just came out.

secondly, no one, and i mean no one believes renee zellweger will be playing glinda. she is an amazing Roxie but would NEVER ever ever play glinda. she's not even remotly cute or for that matter attractive.

so, there, your records are straight, and a word of advice: don't believe what you read on the internet.

I really hope the movie is made and that who ever makes it is true to the musical/book.....lol.......lata....tell if any other news comes up!!!!!
