I am reading wicked for the first time and it is amazing! But i am "wicked" confused at this point in the story. What was with the binding spell that morrible put on the girls? What does she want them to do, i do not get it. And then Elphaba and Glinda just decide to go to oz and meet the wizard? Why? And why does Elphaba not go back to shiz after speaking to the wizard? I did not get that entire conversation. All i got was a bunch of insults being shot back and forth and then the wizard says be careful who you work for or something like that. What were they talking about that they got angry at eachother? Could someone please explain it to me i just cannot figure it out! Thanks!!!

Welcome welcome! I am Plant a Note, or PlantANote, or as I'm so lovingly called, PaN. I am part of the Welcoming Committee here, along with OvertheMoonforIM, and headed up by our dearest Malky. Thanks for joining our boards!

Ok, so down to business, we have a few basic rules and regs we like to follow, and some advice that help keep this place just peachy.

1) No excessive swearing.
2)We don't talk about religion in general. You can talk about the religion in Wicked, but not your own or anyone else's
3) We are not big fans of chatspeak. be warned, you will be mocked constantly should you try and use it.
4) Only one exclamation point, question mark, and other punctuators are needed. Using "?!?!??!" won't get answers faster, and using "!" gets your point across just as easily as "!!!!"
5. (recently added) We are very large users of sarcasm. Don't take it personally, it's just a pasttime. Some like to use it more than others *coughElphabaofOzcough*, but trust that those people don't hate you. In fact, we highly encourage you throwing it back in our faces.

And: the buttons.

In a little bar above everyone's posts are little icons.

1) A little smiley face with a "?": This is the user's profile. It shows how many posts they have, and other stuff.
2)A flying letter: This let's you e-mail the user.
3) A pencil and paper: Click this to edit your posts if you made a mistake, or want to add something in. People like that better than you making a whole new post.
4)A paper with a red arrow: This is the quote button. If you click it, you, um...quote said post in your reply.

Thanks for joining and we hope you have fun!

Now in response to your question, as far as I comprehended, Mme. Morrible and the Wizard were working incahoots with each other. Morrible saw Elphaba's innate talent, Glinda's determination to learn, and Nessa's passion for her religion. The Wiz and Morrible wanted this sort of bermuda triangle of power to rule over OZ in a corrupt way. So Morrible put them under a spell so they could not discuss it with each other or find a way to lash back against her. However, they didn't know the Wizard was in on it, so Elphaba plans this mission for her and Glinda to seek out his help against Morrible's corruption and the prejudice against the Animals only to find out it was his idea in the first place. Then Elphaba stays in the Emerald City to begin her cause defending the Animals, and she sends Glinda back to Shiz.

*Phew!* I hope I got it all... I don't have my book on me though, so if anyone has more to add, or to correct me completely, please do!

Thanks! That makes more sense now. But i am still very confused about the dialouge that occuirs between Elphaba and the wizard. How does Elphaba finally figure out that the two (Morrible and him)are in cahoots with each other? It never comes out and says that. In fact, everything that you just explained seems to be hidden in the dialouge because they both rant on and on but nothing is stated exactly. What exaclty does morrible do for the wizard? Does she hold a ranking position with the wizard or is she just asked by him to round up three powerful students in her dorm to help him contain the Animals and put down rebellions? I am sorry for the need of such massive explaination, but before i move on to the next section, i want to be sure i fully understand exacly why it is the wizard is corrup and what he is doing, and why he specifically knows the three girls with morribe when he could have chosen anyone is OZ to help him. I want to be able to really enjoy the rest of the story, so i figure it is best to get the explanations now. Thank you very much for your help, i look forward to your response!

Often in Wicked what seems vague is either answered later or purposely vague to give you something to ponder. I'd suggest you keep reading.

Yeah, good call Twyz. Because honestly, Wicked_Obsessed, I can't even answer the why question. I don't really know. Perhaps I need to go back and read it a third time... haha.

For those of you searching for your books to see exactly what the quote was (as I have just done) I'll make it easier.

"Then hobbling like a glacier, old Kumbricia
Rubs the naked sky till it rains with blood.
She tears the skin off the sun and eats it hot.
She tucks the sickle moon in her patient purse.
She bears it out, a full-grown changeling stone.
Shard by shard she rearranges the world.
It looks the same, she says, but it is not.
It looks as they expect, but it is not."

As this is followed by the Wizard's statement "Beware whom you serve", I would imagine it's just a way to illustrate his point, that things aren't always what they seem. If you remember, Frex mentioned once having to state a part of the Oziad to prove he wasn't a madman. Perhaps the Wizard is attempting to prove the same. A way of talking to Ozians in their own language in order to gain there trust. Hey, I'm one of you, I know your Oziad, you can trust me, you should trust me.
